Metal–Organic Framework-Derived Heteroatom-Doped Nanoarchitectures for Electrochemical Energy Storage: Recent Advances and Future Perspectives

Metal sulfides have shown great promise for sodium‐ion batteries due to their excellent redox reversibility and relatively high capacity. However, metal sulfides generally suffer from sluggish charge transport and serious volume change during the charge–discharge process. Herein, potato chip‐like nitrogen‐doped carbon‐coated ZnS/Sb2S3 heterojunction (ZnS/Sb2S3@NC) is precisely synthesized through a sulfurization reaction, and a subsequent metal cation exchange process between Zn2+ and Sb3+. The theoretical calculations and experimental studies reveal the boosted charge transfer in ZnS/Sb2S3@NC composites. Therefore, the ZnS/Sb2S3@NC electrode exhibits excellent cycling stability (a high reversible capacity of 511.4 mAh g‐1 after 450 cycles) and superior rate performance (400.4 mAh g‐1 at 10 A g‐1). In addition, ZnS/Sb2S3@NC is based on a conversion‐alloy reaction mechanism to store Na+, which is disclosed by the X‐ray diffraction and high resolution transmission electron microscopy analysis. This effective synthesis method can provide a reference for the design of other high‐performance electrode materials for sodium‐ion batteries.

Construction of ZnS/Sb2S3 Heterojunction as an Ion‐Transport Booster toward High‐Performance Sodium Storage

Rechargeable batteries are key in the field of electrochemical energy storage, and the development of advanced electrode materials is essential to meet the increasing demand of electrochemical energy storage devices with higher density of energy and power. Anode materials are the key components of batteries. However, the anode materials still suffer from several challenges such as low rate capability and poor cycling stability, limiting the development of high‐energy and high‐power batteries. In recent years, heterojunctions have received increasing attention from researchers as an emerging material, because the constructed heterostructures can significantly improve the rate capability and cycling stability of the materials. Although many research progress has been made in this field, it still lacks review articles that summarize this field in detail. Herein, this review presents the recent research progress of heterojunction‐type anode materials, focusing on the application of various types of heterojunctions in lithium/sodium‐ion batteries. Finally, the heterojunctions introduced in this review are summarized, and their future development is anticipated.

Lithium-ion batteries can achieve superior performance by utilizing conversion reactions, Moreover, Sodium-ion batteries are expected to become alternatives to lithium-ion because of the plentiful sodium resources. This review discusses the most current developments and unmet needs in anode materials based on conversion reactions of Lithium-ion and sodium-ion batteries, as well as various synthesis techniques, morphological characteristics, and electrochemical properties.
