System, method, and tangible computer-readable storage media are disclosed for providing a brokering service for compute resources The method includes, at a brokering service, polling a group of separately administered compute environments to identify resource capabilities and information, each compute resource environment including the group of managed nodes for processing workload, receiving a request for compute resources at the brokering service system, the request for compute resources being associated with a service level agreement (SLA) and based on the resource capabilities across the group of compute resource environments, selecting compute resources in one or more of the group of compute resource environments The brokering service system receives workload associated with the request and communicates the workload to the selected resources for processing The brokering services system can aggregate resources for multiple cloud service providers and act as an advocate for or a guarantor of the SLA associated with the workload

System and method of brokering cloud computing resources

Internet-based social virtual world SVW services have aroused extensive interest among academicians and practitioners. The success of SVW services depends heavily on customers' continuance usage, a topic not yet adequately investigated in information systems research. It is unclear to what extent, and how, the existing theories can be extended to explain the continuance usage of such services. In consideration of the distinctive features of these services, this study adapts the dedication-constraint framework of commitment and develops a model of SVW continuance, which is assessed empirically using data collected from 438 experienced users of Second Life, a typical SVW service. Results indicate that SVW customers' continuance intention is jointly determined by two mechanisms: affective commitment being attracted to and calculative commitment being locked in, with the former playing a more central role. Perceived utilitarian value, hedonic value, and relational capital promote affective commitment directly and indirectly through satisfaction, while service-specific investments in personalization and relational capital increase calculative commitment. Theoretical and practical implications and future research directions are subsequently discussed.

Polarization and acculturation in US Election 2016 outcomes – Can twitter analytics predict changes in voting preferences

Previous studies on social virtual world (SVW) continuance have suggested that satisfaction, which promotes SVW continuance intention, is determined by three types of perceived benefits (i.e., utilitarian, hedonic, and social benefits). Moreover, the relative impacts of these benefits on satisfaction are contingent on individual difference factors such as gender. However, little (if any) research has systematically investigated the effects of these benefits on satisfaction simultaneously, and how these effects are moderated by gender, in the SVW context. Adopting the need fulfillment perspective as a guiding framework and extending the literature of gender differences in technology usage into the distinctive context of SVWs, this study investigates the effects of the three types of perceived benefits, moderated by gender, on satisfaction in relation to SVW continuance. The proposed hypotheses are supported by multigroup PLS analyses using empirical data collected from 464 users of Second Life, a typical SVW. Specifically, we find that utilitarian and social benefits are more important for female users in predicting satisfaction, whereas hedonic benefit has a more salient effect on satisfaction for male users. These findings have important theoretical and practical implications.

A single pixel clear Graphics Image Format (GIF) request is added to the HyperText Markup Language (HTML) source file for a web page. Appended to the GIF request is a Common Gateway Interface (CGI) string of data that contains enhanced web activity data information, including the number of images ( hits') that have to be retrieved by a client browser to build the web page, and the referring identifier that resulted in access to the web page. The single pixel clear GIF request is not cacheable and results in the request being transmitted to the origin web server when the client browser interprets the HTML file. The enriched data is stored in log files at the origin web server to accumulate an accurate number of hits on the web page.

In this paper we examine the challenges of moving a large, traditionally waterfall-driven organization toward an agile development methodology. In particular we address the problems/successes we encountered in our attempts to adhere to the 12 practices of extreme programming given: 1) this was a first attempt with agile techniques and in particular extreme programming and 2) an organization that while supportive, is still driven by its own set of governance processes which seem to be in contradiction to extreme programming. We discuss how we prepared our development and customer teams in order to achieve an agile mindset along with the issues we encountered in our attempts to mesh IBM's internal processes with our implementation of extreme programming. Finally we address some of the lessons learned as revealed by our final project retrospective and out future plans using agile techniques.
