Overview of recent progress in fisheries acoustics made by Ifremer with examples from the Bay of Biscay
Verena M. Trenkel,Laurent Berger,Sébastien Bourguignon,Mathieu Doray,Ronan Fablet,Ronan Fablet,Jacques Masse,Valérie Mazauric,Cyrille Poncelet,Gael Quemener,Carla Scalabrin,Héctor Villalobos,Héctor Villalobos +12 more
TL;DR: Results on the spatial distribution of small pelagic fish schools in the Bay of Biscay illustrate the role that acoustics can play, and are already playing, in the implementation of an ecosystem approach to fisheries.

Monitoring small pelagic fish in the Bay of Biscay ecosystem, using indicators from an integrated survey
Mathieu Doray,Pierre Petitgas,Martin Huret,Erwan Duhamel,Jean-Baptiste Romagnan,Matthieu Authier,Christine Dupuy,Jérôme Spitz +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, a suite of 143 potential indicators, including spatial indices, representing small pelagic fish and their biotic and abiotic environments are presented, and potential interactions between selected indicators and external forcing variables, including climate and fishing, were assessed.

Acoustic characterisation of pelagic fish aggregations around moored fish aggregating devices in Martinique (Lesser Antilles)
TL;DR: In this paper, an echo-integration-by-shoal algorithm was implemented to isolate pelagic fish shoals from sound scattering layers and to compute mean morphometric, positional and density parameters.

Age and growth of blackfin tuna ( Thunnus atlanticus ) caught under moored fish aggregating devices, around Martinique Island
TL;DR: According to the results, there is no evidence that Martinican moored FADs act as ecological traps for blackfin tuna, and young black fin tuna probably leave the vicinity of MartinicanMoored Fads to undergo a trophic migration at 7 to 8 month-old, and then come back about 8 months later to breed in the Lesser Antilles area.

Modelling the variability in fish spatial distributions over time with empirical orthogonal functions: anchovy in the Bay of Biscay
TL;DR: In this article, the authors apply the method of empirical orthogonal functions (EOFs) on a series of gridded maps as derived from fisheries survey data, and apply it to the series of European anchovy in the Bay of Biscay at spawning time.
