This study aims to determine the effectiveness of prenatal yoga in reducing 4-5 lumbar pain in third trimester pregnant women. The method used was quasi experimental with a two-group pre-test and post-test design approach . The results showed that the p value in the Wilcoxon test results showed a significant difference in the level of lumbar pain 4-5 pre-test and post-test carried out in the experimental group, p=0.000 (p<0.05). The results of statistical processing carried out using the Mann Whitney test, the p value shows that there is a significant difference in lumbar pain 4-5 pre-test and post-test in the experimental group, namely p=0.004 (p<0.05). Conclusion, prenatal yoga is effective for decrease in lumbar pain 4-5 in third trimester pregnant women.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE
Preterm labor is a global problem affecting the health of newborns. Despite numerous studies reporting electrophysiological changes throughout pregnancy, the underlying mechanism that triggers labor remains unclear. Electrophysiological modeling can provide additional information to better understand the physiological transition from pregnancy to labor. Previous uterine electrophysiological models do not consider either the tissue thickness or fiber structure, which have both been shown to significantly impact propagation patterns.


METHODS
This paper presents a parallel computational model of the uterus using the bioengineering modeling environment OpenCMISS. This model is a multiscale anisotropic model that spans different levels from cell to organ. At the cellular level, the model utilizes a mathematical representation of uterine myocytes based on multiple ion channels. In the 3D uterine model, fiber structures are added, ranging from horizontal rings in the inner layer to vertically downward fibers in the outer layer, to more accurately depict the electrophysiological activities of the uterus. Additionally, we have developed a multilayer volume conduction model based on the boundary element method to describe the propagation of electrical signals from the myometrium to the abdominal surface.


RESULTS
Our model can not only reproduce faithfully both local non-propagated and global propagated electrical activity, but also simulate the fast wave low and fast wave high components of the electrohysterogram (EHG) on the abdominal surface. The model results support the hypothesis that the fast wave high of the EHG signal is related to uterine excitability and fast wave low is related to signal propagation. The amplitude of the simulated signal on the abdominal surface falls in the ranges of real EHG data, which is inversely proportional to the abdominal subcutaneous fat thickness, and the signal waveform highly depends on electrode position and the relative distance to the pacemaker. In addition, the propagation velocity is highly dependent on the uterus geometry and falls in the real-world data range CONCLUSIONS: Our models facilitate a better understanding of the electrophysiological changes of the uterus during pregnancy and labor, and allow for an investigation of drug effects and/or structural or anatomical abnormalities.

A Computationally Efficient Anisotropic Electrophysiological Multiscale Uterus Model: From Cell to Organ and Myometrium to Abdominal Surface

Low back and pelvic girdle pain are prevalent during pregnancy, impacting about 50% of pregnant women. Previous studies conducted on the general population have suggested that physical activity has been associated with reductions in pain levels.
Purpose: To determine if women with higher levels of physical activity experience less low back and pelvic girdle pain and lower disability scores than women who are less physically active.
Methods: Pregnant women (n=24, 32.2 ± 4.1 years) were recruited between 28- and 32-weeks gestation. Participants reported their weekly physical activity, responded to subjective pain surveys, and underwent a battery of objective pain testing. Spearman’s-rho was used to assess correlations between physical activity scores and each subjective pain measure.
Results: Tests for correlation between pregnancy physical activity scores and pain domain measures were not significant (ps>0.05), so no relationship could be determined between physical activity levels and low back/pelvic girdle pain based on this study.
Conclusion: This study was not able to identify a significant correlation between physical activity levels and low back/pelvic girdle pain during pregnancy.

Physical Activity and Pain During Pregnancy

Background: More than half of the pregnant women are affected by lumbopelvic pain (LPP) in their daily lives. Physical activity (PA) contributes to LPP relief. There are several reports on exercise habits, including the recommended activity intensity (moderate) and time spent (at least three times a week); however, only a few detailed reports on household/child-rearing and occupational activity are available. Therefore, this study explored the relationships between housework/child-rearing, occupational hours, and LPP. Methods: This study included 95 pregnant females who attended an obstetrics and gynecology hospital. The participants were divided into two groups based on the results of an interview on the presence of LPP and classified by intensity or category using the Pregnancy Physical Activity Questionnaire (PPAQ-J). The Wilcoxon signed-rank test was used to compare PA between the two groups. When a significant difference was observed, we performed logistic regression analysis using body mass index (BMI) as an adjustment variable. Results: There were 16 females with LPP and 17 women without LPP in the third trimester. There were significant associations between the PPAQ scores of housework/child-rearing activities and LPP in the third trimester. No significant differences in any category of PPAQ scores were observed between the groups with and without LPP in the first and second trimester of pregnancy. Conclusions: Our study showed the association between PA and LPP in the third pregnancy. Pregnant females with LPP tended to spend more time on housework and child-rearing necessary for their lives. The duration of housework and child rearing should be reduced because of prolonged standing and the burden on the lumbar area. 

Relationship between Physical Activity and Lumbopelvic Pain during Pregnancy: A Cross-Sectional Study

OBJECTIVES
Lumbopelvic pain (LPP) is a very common cause of discomfort during pregnancy, but its etiology remains unclear. The association between abdominal muscle thickness and LPP in pregnant women has not been studied extensively, despite the significant abdominal changes that occur during pregnancy. This study aimed to examine the relationship between abdominal muscle thickness and LPP in pregnant women.


METHODS
In this study, 49 pregnant women in their second trimester participated. The intensity of LPP was assessed using a numerical rating scale. Ultrasound imaging was used to measure the thickness of abdominal muscles, including the rectus abdominis, external oblique, internal oblique, and transversus abdominis muscles. Participants were classified into two groups, the LPP group and non-LPP group, and the abdominal muscle thickness was compared between the two groups. The statistical significance level was set at P < .05.


RESULTS
There were 24 and 25 participants in the LPP and non-LPP groups, respectively. Internal oblique (IO) thickness was significantly thinner in the LPP group than in the non-LPP group (5.4 ± 0.2 mm versus 6.1 ± 0.2 mm; P = .042). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that IO thickness was significantly associated with LPP (odds ratio, 0.516; 95% confidence interval, 0.284-0.935; P = .019).


CONCLUSIONS
This study suggested that LPP in second trimester pregnancy might be related to IO thickness. Further longitudinal studies are needed to understand the role of this muscle as an LPP risk factor for pregnant women.
