Since its start in 1971, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has continually been distinguished as a portrait for innovation. It is deliberated the fastest growing market in the region and is categorized as the most innovation-driven economy in the Arab world (EW 2010; DCCI 2010; WEF 2010). The country‟s leadership aims to create a knowledge-based economy powered by innovation. The UAE is rapidly transforming from an oil-based economy to an innovative, knowledge-based economy. By moving towards a knowledge-based economy, the UAE has diversified its economy and positioned itself as a key player in real estate, renewable energy and aviation; it has also become a global pivot for trade and logistics, financial services and tourism. The UAE today is considered as one of the most popular tourist destinations.

Innovation as a Source of Competitive Advantage in Human Resource Management: Case of Travel Agencies in the UAE

The paper explores the status quo of strategic human resource management and its perceived role to alleviate inefficient management in Uganda public universities. A close-ended questionnaire was administered to top and middle level university managers (n = 101) to establish the status quo of strategic human resource management practices and the perceived role it can play to alleviate inefficient management at Makerere and Kyambogo. The results of the study indicate that strategic human resource management practices are barely practiced in Uganda public universities. The results also reveal that top and middle level managers have a strong conviction that integration of strategic human resource management practices can alleviate inefficient management in Uganda public universities. The paper concludes that due to rapid changes emanating from globalisation, knowledge based economy, technological revolution and reduced funding of higher education from governments, public universities in Uganda need to adopt strategic human resource management to improve their efficiency

Integration Of Strategic Human Resource Management For Efficiency In Uganda Public Universities

The professional doctorate is a degree that is specifically designed for professionals investigating
real-world problems and relevant issues for a profession, industry and/or the community. The
exploratory study on which this paper is based sought to track the scholarly skill development of a
cohort of professional doctoral students who commenced their course in January 2008 at an Australian
university. Via an initial survey and two focus groups held six months apart, the study aimed to determine
if there had been any qualitative shifts in students’ understandings, expectations and perceptions regarding
their developing knowledge and skills. Three key findings that emerged from this study were:
(i) the appropriateness of using a blended learning approach in this professional doctoral program;
(ii) the challenges of using wikis as an online technology for creating communities of practice; and
(iii) the transition from professional to scholar is a process that requires the guided support inherent
in the design of this particular doctorate of education program.

This study searches for use of simplex theory in talent management. It is a research topic belonging to this study. Human resource management (HRM) can be described with performance focus and talent management. This study presents a new perspective in talent management. Firstly, Talent management may be described with fulfilling organizational positions by bets talents, because talents further performance of departments and performance of firm. Firm has departments, such as production department, marketing departments, finance department, and etc. This study suggests simplex method for talent management for practitioners. It identifies research question and has two propositions that simplex may be used in talent management. Secondly, study depicts linear of American HRM. It is based on a relationship among human resource (HR) systems, various HRM practices, and organizational performance. Linear proposition of study is that, HRM practices as a system have an impact on firm performance (goal function).

Simplex of HR: Talent Management with Simplex Methodology

This paper aims to discuss differences between human resource management (HRM) and strategic human resource management (SHRM), and aims to discuss convergence or divergence between American and European HRM. Therefore, research question is what the similarities and differences are between European and American HRM. Research methodology is based on critical review of HRM literature. Therefore, this study aims to increase conceptual ability of human resource (HR) professionals. Major result is that HRM is related with employee performance, and SHRM is related with firm performance. Secondly, European HRM is becoming similar to American HRM. The difference between European and American HRM is social context and social partners. European HRM considers social partners in management of HR.
