Technology scaling, characterized by decreasing feature size, thin- ning gate oxide, and non-ideal voltage scaling, will become a major hindrance to microprocessor reliability in future technology gener- ations. Physical analysis of device failure mechanisms has shown that most wearout mechanisms projected to plague future technol- ogy generations are progressive, meaning that the circuit-level ef- fects of wearout develop and intensify with age over the lifetime of the chip. This work leverages the progression of wearout over time in order to present a low-cost hardware structure that identi- fies increasing propagation delay, which is symptomatic of many forms of wearout, to accurately forecast the failure of microarchi- tectural structures. To motivate the use of this predictive technique, an HSPICE analysis of the effects of one particular failure mecha- nism, gate oxide breakdown, on gates from a standard cell library characterized for a 90 nm process is presented. This gate-level anal- ysis is then used to demonstrate the aggregate change in output de- lay of high-level structures within a synthesized Verilog model of an embedded microprocessor core. Leveraging this analysis, a self- calibrating hardware structure for conducting statistical analysis of output delay is presented and its efficacy in predicting the failure of a variety of structures within the microprocessor core is evaluated.

Introducing an application into a data center involves complex interrelated decision-making for the placement of data (where to store it) and resiliency in the event of a disaster (how to protect it). Automated planners can assist administrators in making intelligent placement and resiliency decisions when provisioning for both new and existing applications. Such planners take advantage of recent improvements in storage resource management and provide guided recommendations based on monitored performance data and storage models. For example, the IBM Provisioning Planner provides intelligent decision-making for the steps involved in allocating and assigning storage for workloads. It involves planning for the number, size, and location of volumes on the basis of workload performance requirements and hierarchical constraints, planning for the appropriate number of paths, and enabling access to volumes using zoning, masking, and mapping. The IBM Disaster Recovery (DR) Planner enables administrators to choose and deploy appropriate replication technologies spanning servers, the network, and storage volumes to provide resiliency to the provisioned application. The DR Planner begins with a list of high-level application DR requirements and creates an integrated plan that is optimized on criteria such as cost and solution homogeneity. The Planner deploys the selected plan using orchestrators that are responsible for failover and failback.

Automated planners for storage provisioning and disaster recovery

Education is recognized as a fundamental enabler of human development. The adoption of information and communications technologies ICTs by education especially in developing countries contributes to educational system reforms, in addition to the traditional advantages, such as social openness and accessibility. Yet the academic community has not studied sufficiently the challenging context in which ICTs are used as instruments for the reform of inefficient, and sometimes even corrupted, educational systems rather than just as means for smarter classrooms, remote access, or content management. The object of this study is Ukrainian higher education HE and its quality assurance QA system, which appears to be neither flexible nor transparent. We offer an ICT solution to provide the needed transparency. We show that such transparency is urgently needed for the structural reform of this system, in order to empower people and recover their trust and respect toward HE. The solution is based on ontology-driven portal as a digital ecosystem for national QA. We show how the content of the portal can be managed and verified based on users' social activity and reputation management, and how the quality evaluations of different players can be made with personalized procedures and quality indicators.

In today's highly developed academic society, universities have recognized the importance of having websites to be able to have right academic communications. On the other hand, students satisfaction of university websites shows to some extend university web success. The aim of current study is to propose universities website satisfaction model. The survey research was conducted among 270 university students. Results of the empirical analysis confirmed that the trust of the users increase when they perceive that the system is usable. Also greater innovation was found to have a positive influence on users' trust and satisfaction. Finally, students' trust has a positive influence on their satisfaction.
