TL;DR: A picture identification test for measuring speech discrimination ability in hearing-impaired children was developed in two phases as discussed by the authors, where the word stimuli were evaluated to determine whether they were within the recognition vocabulary of the children and whether the pictorial representations of the words were adequate.

TL;DR: It is concluded that the relative use of audition or vision was almost completely related to children's auditory capabilities as represented by the children's unaided threshold sensitivity and aided speech reception performance.
