The invention can enable monitoring of the display of content by a computer system. Moreover, the invention can enable monitoring of the displayed content to produce monitoring information from which conclusions may be deduced regarding the observation of the displayed content by an observer. The invention can also enable monitoring of the display at a content display site of content that is provided by a content provider site over a network to the content display site. Additionally, the invention can enable the expeditious provision of updated and/or tailored content over a network from a content provider site to a content display site so that the content provider's current and appropriately tailored content is always displayed at the content display site. Aspects of the invention related to transfer of content over a network are generally applicable to any type of network. However, it is contemplated that the invention can be particularly useful with a computer network, including private computer networks (e.g., America Online™) and public computer networks (e.g., the Internet). In particular, the invention can be advantageously used with computer networks or portions of computer networks over which video and/or audio content are transferred from one network site to another network site for observation, such as the World Wide Web portion of the Internet.

A system and method for accessing, controlling and monitoring a data processing device in which a video raster signal from the data processing device is analyzed to determine the information displayed on a video display monitor attached to the data processing device is used. The video raster signal is converted to a digital form and a cyclic redundancy check is performed on the digital data to determine the information contained in the video raster signal and to generate a compressed representation of that information. The information may then easily and quickly be transmitted to a remote location for analysis and review. Additionally, commands from the remote location can be transmitted to the system to control the data processing device.

The present invention relates to simultaneous computer screen and voice monitoring from a remote location, and particularly relates to synchronized telephone and screen monitoring of a computer workstation from a remote location. Such monitoring is useful for providing training and assistance to those using such workstations, especially in connection with telephone use, can also be useful for providing an audit trial of significant on-screen events, or can be used as a trigger to initiate other separate events. In one embodiment, graphics primitives are used to determine localized screen changes which are periodically copied from the monitored workstation desktop and sent over a network to a remote, monitoring, workstation. In another embodiment, localized screen changes are determined by full screen comparison, and sent over a network to a remote, monitoring, workstation.

Method and apparatus for simultaneously monitoring computer user screen and telephone activity from a remote location

A distribution system and method which can be executed by such a system. The system comprises: first terminal remote from a hub station, having: a selection from among a plurality of possible access rights to generate a granted access right set which contains a set of access rights to a remotely stored image set; an input for allowing input of a third party electronic address associated with the granted access right set; a communication for transmitting the granted access right set and associated third party electronic address; and a hub station remote from the first terminal, comprising: a storage for the image set; a receiver for the transmission from the first remote terminal; a storage for the granted access right set and associated access identification; an automatic transmitting from the hub station to the third party electronic address; an electronic address for the hub station, a listing of the access rights of the granted set associated with the third party electronic address, and the associated access identification; and an allowance of a third party to access the image set from a terminal remote from the hub, only in accordance with the granted access right set.

A remote diagnostic and monitoring system and method for use with an operation system having a multi-tasking interface to a real time control system, the remote diagnostic and monitoring system and method comprising a remote diagnostic task operating in an interface computer operatively connected to the operation system, a communication link, and a remote service computer coupled to the interface computer via the communication link. The remote diagnostic task operating on the interface computer can initiate and monitor from a remote location any of the procedures and controls run on the interface computer for controlling and monitoring the operation system. The remote diagnostic task receives instructions from a person at the remote service computer through the communications link and injects these instructions into the operating software of the operation system in a manner such that the remote source, i.e. the remote service computer, is indistinguisable from a local source. The remote diagnostic task is grouped or included with functionally partitioned application tasks in the interface computer and uses the multitasking operating system of the interface computer in the same manner as the application tasks.
