Endothelial cell dysfunction and glycocalyx - A vicious circle.
Xiaohui Zhang,Dong Sun,Jeon W. Song,Joseph Zullo,Mark Lipphardt,Leona Coneh-Gould,Michael S. Goligorsky +6 more
TL;DR: The main thrust of this overview is to advance a hypothesis on the existence of vicious circle relations between impaired endothelial glycocalyx and endothelial cell dysfunction and sketch therapeutic approaches to restore them.

Effect of baroreflex activation therapy on renal sodium excretion in patients with resistant hypertension
Mark Lipphardt,Michael Koziolek,Luca-Yves Lehnig,Ann-Kathrin Schäfer,Gerhard A. Müller,Stephan Lüders,Manuel Wallbach +6 more
TL;DR: A significant increase of estimated 24-h urinary sodium excretion was revealed which may contribute to the long-term BP-lowering effects of this interventional method.

Eligibility for Baroreflex Activation Therapy and medication adherence in patients with apparently resistant hypertension.
Ann-Kathrin Schäfer,Tim Kuczera,Rebecca Wurm-Kuczera,Dieter Müller,Ellen Born,Mark Lipphardt,Marlene Plüss,Manuel Wallbach,Michael Koziolek +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors evaluated patients' eligibility for Baroreflex activation therapy in a staged assessment as well as adherence to antihypertensive drug therapy and found that the most common cause for a revoked BAT recommendation was blood pressure (BP) control by drug adjustment (54.2%).

Immunoadsorption or plasma exchange in steroid-refractory multiple sclerosis and neuromyelitis optica.
Mark Lipphardt,Johannes Mühlhausen,Bernd Kitze,Franz Heigl,Erich Mauch,Hans-Joachim Helms,Gerhard A. Müller,Michael Koziolek +7 more
TL;DR: Plasma exchange and immunoadsorption are alternative treatments of steroid‐refractory relapses of multiple sclerosis (MS) or neuromyelitis optica (NMO).
Plasma Exchange or Immunoadsorption in Demyelinating Diseases: A Meta-Analysis.
TL;DR: Based on the recent literature, PE and IA may be considered as equal treatment possibilities in patients suffering from acute, glucocorticosteroid-unresponsive MS relapses and several national and international guidelines have no uniform recommendations on using plasma exchange nor immunoadsorption in this case.
