This article outlines the necessity for investigating the attitudes of local students towards the use of the English-medium instruction (EMI) strategy in their programs in China. It starts by presenting an overview of English as a global language, how English is emphasized in China, and briefly presents the concept of 'Attitude' and how the motivation factor plays a significant role in the conception processing of attitudes. Semi-structured interviews with six graduate students majoring in different programs are conducted. The analysis of the interviews identified that the participants hold very positive attitudes towards the use of the EMI strategy at their current programs. The participants, furthermore, expressed their complete readiness to join post-graduate programs wherein only the EMI strategy is implemented. In addition to the factors identified in the literature, the current article also recognized new factors that led the participants to conceiving positive attitudes: maintaining a global friendship, obtaining a leadership position, and acquainting with international scholars. Moreover, it is argued that 'quantity' precedes 'quality' in higher education institutions. Finally, the article provides a suggestion for how to meet the students' language needs and maximize the competition in obtaining top world-class university rankings.

Chinese Students' Attitudes towards the Use of English-medium Instruction into the Curriculum Courses: A Case Study of a National Key University in Beijing

To understand the role of a global language in different societies, one needs to distinguish between imperial or colonial and post-imperial or post-colonial societies. As a rule, imperial societies strongly resist any kind of linguistic globalization which they consider to be an imminent threat to their language and culture. Post-imperial societies, such as Azerbaijan, tend to have a more open attitude to the realities of a global language since they feel more secure in their cultural identities. Therefore, the spread of global English creates an excellent opportunity for building multilingualism and plurilingualism in post-imperial societies.

English in Azerbaijan: Developments and Perspectives: English language education policy and practice in Azerbaijan from the early 1990s to the present day

Purpose: This study examined the effectiveness of a bilingual education program in business English major in Chinese education. Participants were 100 undergraduate students enrolled in their third year education program at a university in South-central University for Nationalities Wuhan-China. The research evidence indicates that, the use of English as a medium of instruction in major courses is effective. Methodology:  A semi-structured interviews with 100 undergraduate students majoring in Business English Was administered. The analysis of the interviews used both mixed-methodological approach so as to better understand the participants views and how efficient is bilingual education programs to them. Finding: The analysis identified that the participants hold very great expectation towards the use of the English in their class especially their current programs. The participants, furthermore, expressed their complete choice to join the college especially the only department that conduct in English. However,in this article also recognized new factors that led the participants to assume hopefulness, maintaining a global friendship, obtaining a leadership position in the future, and connect with international scholars. But,all analysis was done by incorporating both quantitative and qualitative results which also suggested that the bilingual education model successfully enhanced students’ level of English proficiency and the mastery of subject knowledge teaching quality which was also another aspect to be considered important aspect in this research associated with the bilingual education program for Business English Major. Strengths and weaknesses of the business English major in bilingual education program model and its implications for educational practices in South-central University for Nationalities Wuhan-China education were explored. Research Implication: However, a big sum of participants expressed their positive attitudes towards the use of the English as a medium of instruction in their courses and the strategy in their programs have highlighted their needs  not only for inviting international lecturers but also for accomplishing their hopes and ambitions. They, furthermore, the mean gain scores of participants as the more they interact and get familiar with the medium of instruction the more it implies that using bilingualism in teaching does contribute good effect in student’s engagement and academic performance. Practical implication:The findings of the study will be of additional knowledge to the academic institutions in China especially in Wuhan cities understand their students and strategies that could help to increase more majors in English for Chinese students and also will give a wide choices of major to study currently and in the future. The findings also hoped to benefit the policy makers to re-consider needs and preferences of their local students. The Chinese students are interested in join programs that are taught in English and the policy makers need to put up with these students' needs by realizing their views in reality. Originality: The study contributes to the scanty literature on bilingual education in Chinese university especially South-central University for Nationalities in Wuhan and other institutions. The Attitude and Motivation of Islamic Studies Students towards Learning the English Learning

Abstract Ensuring linguistic operability in supranational organizations has led to the de facto imposition of an English-only policy in otherwise lingua-culturally diverse environments. This paper uses a combination of a literature review of military-related language policy documents and semi-structured interviews to explore the impact of those policies on the use of English as the working language of a professional context, the Spanish military. Broadly, the findings show that the standardization of linguistic certification procedures, a requirement for their participation in international operations, places these professionals in a disadvantage scenario in which lack of linguistic proficiency translates into the questioning of their personal, professional and institutional validity. The analysis of Spanish soldiers’ perceptions and attitudes helped to shed light on the conflicting interaction of language policies, practices and beliefs. Although English is valued as the language of work and therefore as a vehicle for interaction with other armies, for socialization or for contact with the local population, it is nonetheless viewed as an imposition of the globalized world, accepted with pragmatic and instrumental criteria, which entails the requirement of language certification standards they struggle to meet.
