A system and method provide comprehensive and highly automated testing of vulnerabilities to intrusion on a target network, including identification of operating system, identification of target network topology and target computers, identification of open target ports, assessment of vulnerabilities on target ports, active assessment of vulnerabilities based on information acquired from target computers, quantitative assessment of target network security and vulnerability, and hierarchical graphical representation of the target network, target computers, and vulnerabilities in a test report. The system and method employ minimally obtrusive techniques to avoid interference with or damage to the target network during or after testing.

System and method for network vulnerability detection and reporting

The specification discloses a method of doing business over the public Internet, particularly, a method which enables access to legacy management tools used by a telecommunications enterprise in the management of the enterprise business to the enterprise customer, to enable the customer to more effectively manage the business conducted by the customer through the enterprise, this access being provided over the public Internet. A Web-based call routing management workstation application which allows authorized customers to control toll free routing and monitor call center status. An architecture including one or more web servers located in a firewalled demilitarized zone (DMZ) as communications medium between the customer workstations at the customer sites and the enterprise back-end applications providing the call routing management services, provides a secure infrastructure for accessing the enterprise applications via the otherwise insecure public Internet. The present invention enables creation and management of call by call routing rules by a customer with a workstation having an Internet access and a supported Web browser. The customized rules may be tested and/or debugged via the Web-enabled workstation, using a debugger/tester which runs the routing rules under a simulated environment. In addition, customers may provision hierarchies for their business; create, modify or delete agent pools; manipulate capacity tables; and define quota schemes, value lists and schedule tables, all at the customer site via the Web-enabled workstation. The present invention also enables the customers to view near real-time displays of call center ACD statistics and peg counts based on routing rules, as well as, run provisioning and statistical reports on provisioning and statistical data and also to extract the data for further analysis. Additionally, the present invention supports foreign language and branding features on a graphical user interface. An infrastructure is provided which enables secure initiation, acquisition, and presentation of the call manager functionalities to customers from any computer workstation having a web browser and located anywhere in the world.

The customer interface system is provided with a graphical customer interface (79) for enabling a customer to interact with one or more products and services provided by remote servers located in an enterprise Intranet/Extranet, and utilizes a Web paradigm to allow easy and convenient access to all of the services from the customer's perspective. The products and services delivered to a client workstation having the integrated customer interface include: 1) report requestor (212), report viewer (215), and report management applications (250); 2) centralized inbox system (210, 270); 3) an operational data storage system (400); 4) a trouble ticket tool; 5) a Web-based invoice reporting system; 6) an Internet 'online' order entry (280, 39) and administration service; and, 7) a system for handling security and authentication requests from both client and server side.

Integrated customer interface for web-based data management

A method and apparatus are provided which present hierarchical data to a user via a graphical user interface. A preferred embodiment represents hierarchical data related to a computer network and is provided to a user as part of a network management software application. In the interface, hierarchical data is represented by nodes, beginning with one or more top nodes and extending into lower hierarchical levels by the display of child nodes, child's child nodes, and so forth. The arrangement of nodes on the graphical user interface is such that scaling portrays the various hierarchical levels, and nodes do not spatially interfere with one another. Navigation through the hierarchical data is provided by allowing the user to select any visible node, at which point a zoom-in or zoom-out view to the selected node as a centrally located node on the interface is performed. Child nodes at lower hierarchical levels that were not visible before selection are then made visible up to a predetermined number of levels within the hierarchy. A map is provided on the interface which allows a user to graphically comprehend the present location of all nodes displayed on the interface in relation to their position within the overall hierarchy. As applied to network management, the interface allows errors in low level devices within a network to be visually propagated up to the upper levels of the hierarchy, for display to a user viewing only the top levels. The interface and computing system configured according to the invention overcomes problems of prior art systems which obscure a user location within a large hierarchy and the invention overcomes significant navigation problems of prior art systems.

Method and apparatus providing a graphical user interface for representing and navigating hierarchical networks

A graphical user interface (GUI) system (110) is provided for managing and controlling multiple network devices (160a, 160e) and client applications in a telecommunications network. The GUI system provides an integrated environment in which a user sends instructions and data to the network devices and client applications and receives back data related to status of the network devices and client applications. The integrated environment allows the user to access many window screens (226a-226c) which are all tied into one main window (234). The many window screens provide options for commands and views of data related to various areas of management and control of the telecommunications network. The one main window provides a point of reference so that the user does not have to log onto various systems numerous times or use different terminals dependent upon which command or data the user desires to send or receive. Training and operational time and costs are thus reduced from prior art systems.

A system and method for dynamically restoring communications within a network following an outage comprising a database containing the current configuration of switching elements within the network and a plurality of instructions resident on a memory device for operating a control computer wherein the plurality of instructions includes a code segment for receiving alarms from the switching elements identifying an outage, a code segment for selecting restoration switching elements based upon the configuration of the switching elements in the database, and a code segment for implementing a restoration route utilizing the restoration switching elements to restore communications within the network are disclosed.

System and method for dynamically restoring communications within a network

A real-time device data management (RTNDD) system for managing access to data describing devices in a telecommunications network. The RTNDD system maintains a partition data structure for each device. The partition data structure has a header section and a port data section. The header section contains data elements describing the device (e.g., number of ports and device type). The port data section has a port data structure for each port of the device that contains data elements describing the port (e.g., current cross-connect and actual port address for device). The RTNDD system also provides a standard interface through which external systems access the device data. The standard interface has functions for reading and writing to the partition data structures. Each read function reads multiple data elements of a header section or a port data structure at a time, and each write function writes a single data element of a device at a time. The standard interface is device independent such that an external system can use the standard interface to access device data for any type of device whose data is stored in a partition data structure.
