Pluronic-coated carbon nanotubes do not induce degeneration of cortical neurons in vivo and in vitro.
TL;DR: It is shown that multiwall CNTs (MWCNTs) coated with Pluronic F127 (PF127) surfactant can be injected in the mouse cerebral cortex without causing degeneration of the neurons surrounding the site of injection, and that the presence of MWCNTs can reduce PF127 toxicity.

Obesity modulates the expression of haptoglobin in the white adipose tissue via TNFα
Chiara Chiellini,A Bertacca,Silvia E. Novelli,Cem Z. Görgün,Annamaria Ciccarone,Antonio Giordano,Haiyan Xu,Alexander Soukas,Mario Costa,Daniele Gandini,Roberto Dimitri,Pietro Bottone,P. Cecchetti,Ennia Pardini,Lucia Perego,Renzo Navalesi,Franco Folli,Luca Benzi,Saverio Cinti,Jeffrey M. Friedman,Gökhan S. Hotamisligil,Margherita Maffei +21 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that haptoglobin expression in WAT is increased in obesity in rodents and TNFα is an important signal for this regulation.

Cleavage and release of a soluble form of the receptor tyrosine kinase ARK in vitro and in vivo
TL;DR: It is found that ARK is not only expressed as a transmembrane protein, but is also cleaved in the extracellular domain to generate a soluble ARK form of about 65 kDa, which is easily detected in conditioned media of ARK expressing cells, in serum and plasma and in mouse organs.

Functional properties of the separate subunits of human DNA helicase II/Ku autoantigen.
Alexander Ochem,Doris Skopac,Mario Costa,Thierry Rabilloud,Laurent Vuillard,András Simoncsits,Mauro Giacca,Arturo Falaschi +7 more
TL;DR: The helicase activity of the Ku protein resides uniquely in the 70-kDa subunit, whereas the DNA end-binding activity can be reconstituted only through renaturation of the two subunits in the heterodimeric form and is practically absent in the separate subunits.

Gene expression in ductus arteriosus and aorta: comparison of birth and oxygen effects
Mario Costa,Silvia Barogi,Nicholas D. Socci,Debora Angeloni,Margherita Maffei,Barbara Baragatti,Chiara Chiellini,Emanuela Grasso,Flavio Coceani +8 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that several agents, including ANG II as novel effector, promote functional closure of DA, but only ET-1 is causally coupled with oxygen, and oxygen has no role in processes for permanent closure.
