UEF: ubiquity evaluation framework
Bruno Sousa,Kostas Pentikousis,Marilia Curado +2 more
- 15 Jun 2011
TL;DR: The Ubiquity Evaluation Framework (UEF) is introduced, aiming to overcome the limitations of hitherto evaluation mechanisms, as particular protocols of a UbiComp system can be evaluated without requiring a functional system or involving questionnaries to a group of experts in the field.
Experimental Evaluation of Multimedia Services in WiMAX.
Bruno Sousa,Kostas Pentikousis,Marilia Curado +2 more
- 01 Jan 2008
TL;DR: This work empirically quantifies the performance of different multimedia applications and scheduling services in a WiMAX testbed, and finds that in under-provisioned conditions, applications using the Real Time Polling scheduling service enjoy better performance than those using the Best Effort scheduling service, but note that proper configuration of the service flows may not be straightforward in practice.
A QoS Model Based on NSIS Signalling Applied to IEEE 802.16 Networks
N. Ciulli,Giada Landi,Marilia Curado,G. Leao,Thomas Michael Bohnert,F. Mitrano,Cristina Nardini,Gabriele Tamea +7 more
- 01 Feb 2008
TL;DR: An analysis and an experimental validation of a comprehensive solution that describes and implements end-to-end QoS in networks with IEEE802.16e segments is presented, based on the of results of activities focussed on the study of signalling protocols.

Oral vaccination of fish against vibriosis using spore-display technology
Gabriela Flores Gonçalves,Rafaela Santos,Filipe Coutinho,Neide Pedrosa,Marilia Curado,Marina Machado,Benjamín Costas,Lourenço Bonneville,Mónica Serrano,António Paulo Carvalho,Patricia Díaz-Rosales,Aires Oliva-Teles,Ana Rita Couto,Cláudia R. Serra +13 more
TL;DR: In this paper , the authors used a laboratory strain of Bacillus subtilis, for which a variety of genetic manipulation tools are available, to display at its spores surface either a Vibrio antigenic protein, OmpK, or the green fluorescence protein, GFP.

Advanced Mobility in Broadband Wireless Access Scenarios
Ricardo Matos,Bruno Sousa,Pedro Neves,Susana Sargento,Marilia Curado +4 more
- 12 Oct 2009
TL;DR: An architecture based on the recently standardized IEEE 802.21 framework, integrating both mobility and Quality of Service (QoS) mechanisms, is evaluated through an advanced mobility scenario using a real WiMAX testbed, showing that it is able to provide QoS under dynamic scenarios, with fast integrated QoS and mobility signaling.
