Mariane Héroux,Ian Janssen +1 more
TL;DR: This study attempted to overcome the limitation of previous studies examining the relation between dietary patterns and health by including an objective marker of physical activity as a covariate in the analyses, and found that the risk estimates for dietary patterns were substantively smaller when cardiorespiratory fitness was the covariate compared with when self-reported physical activity wasthe covariate.

Dietary patterns and the risk of mortality: impact of cardiorespiratory fitness.
TL;DR: The association between diet and overall mortality was, in large part, confounded by fitness.
