Transient infantile auditory neuropathy and its clinical implications.
Ioannis Psarommatis,Maria Riga,Konstantinos Douros,Petros Koltsidopoulos,Dimitrios Douniadakis,Ioannis Kapetanakis,Nikolaos Apostolopoulos +6 more
TL;DR: It is found that low birth weight may represent a reliable predictor for clinical recovery of AN infants, and hearing screening protocols for HR neonates should be revised in both their methodology and time of application.

Georgios Kefalidis,Maria Riga,Paraskevi Argyropoulou,Michael Katotomichelakis,Charalampos Gouveris,Panos Prassopoulos,Vasilios Danielides +6 more
TL;DR: The aim of this study was to investigate the hypothesis that a narrow facial canal might be implicated in the pathophysiology of Bell's palsy.

Allergic rhinitis and aspirin-exacerbated respiratory disease as predictors of the olfactory outcome after endoscopic sinus surgery.
Michael Katotomichelakis,Maria Riga,Spyridon Davris,Gregorios Tripsianis,Maria Simopoulou,Nikolaos Nikolettos,Konstantinos Simopoulos,Vasilios Danielides +7 more
TL;DR: The olfactory recovery after FESS for nasal polyposis is significantly affected by the concomitant presence of AERD, and allergy seems to have a general negative effect onOlfactory acuity, but was not found to affect the extent of the Olfactory improvement, when patients with comparable preoperative characteristics are addressed.

Influence of smoking on developing cochlea. Does smoking during pregnancy affect the amplitudes of transient evoked otoacoustic emissions in newborns
Stavros Korres,Maria Riga,Dimitrios G. Balatsouras,Chariton E. Papadakis,Panagiotis Kanellos,Eleftherios Ferekidis +5 more
TL;DR: In utero, exposure to tobacco smoking seems to have a small impact on outer hair cells, and these effects seem to be equally true for all exposed newborns, regardless of the degree of exposure.

Neurotoxicity of vincristine on the medial olivocochlear bundle
Maria Riga,Ioannis Psarommatis,Stavros Korres,M. Varvutsi,I. Giotakis,N. Apostolopoulos,E. Ferekidis +6 more
TL;DR: Vincristine treatment seems to exert a neurotoxic effect on the efferent olivocochlear system, which takes place early in the course of chemotherapy, which is a new aspect to be added to the possible mechanisms underlying the toxicity of vincristines in the auditory periphery.
