Adjoint-Based Optimization on a Network of Discretized Scalar Conservation Laws with Applications to Coordinated Ramp Metering
Jack Reilly,Samitha Samaranayake,Maria Laura Delle Monache,Walid Krichene,Paola Goatin,Alexandre M. Bayen +5 more
TL;DR: A network of scalar conservation laws with general topology, whose behavior is modified by a set of control parameters in order to minimize a given objective function is considered.

Online Parameter Estimation Methods for Adaptive Cruise Control Systems
Yanbing Wang,George Gunter,Matthew Nice,Maria Laura Delle Monache,Daniel B. Work +4 more
- 01 Jun 2021
TL;DR: Two online methods are used to provide real time system identification of ACC enabled vehicles using a recursive least squares (RLS) approach and a particle filtering approach that solves a nonlinear joint state and parameter estimation problem via particle filtering (PF).
Tracking vehicle trajectories and fuel rates in phantom traffic jams: Methodology and data
Fangyu Wu,Raphael Stern,Raphael Stern,Shumo Cui,Maria Laura Delle Monache,Rahul Bhadani,Matt Bunting,Miles Churchill,Nathaniel Hamilton,R’mani Haulcy,Benedetto Piccoli,Benjamin Seibold,Jonathan Sprinkle,Daniel B. Work +13 more
TL;DR: A novel method that automates the data collection process in an isolated experimental environment to study free flow traffic and phantom traffic waves and can be readily used to study human driving behaviors, to calibrate microsimulation models, to develop fuel consumption models, and to investigate engine emissions.
A front tracking method for a strongly coupled PDE-ODE system with moving density constraints in traffic flow
TL;DR: A numerical method for tracking a bus trajectory on a road network using a locally non-uniform moving mesh which tracks the bus position and some numerical tests are shown to describe the behavior of the solution.

Feedback Control Algorithms for the Dissipation of Traffic Waves with Autonomous Vehicles
Maria Laura Delle Monache,Thibault Liard,Anaïs Rat,Raphael Stern,Rahul Bhadani,Benjamin Seibold,Jonathan Sprinkle,Daniel B. Work,Benedetto Piccoli +8 more
- 01 Jan 2019
TL;DR: It is shown that both in simulation and in the field test that an autonomous vehicle is able to dampen waves generated by 22 cars, and that the total fuel consumption of all vehicles is reduced by up to 20%.
