Serum concentrations of adiponectin, leptin, resistin, ghrelin and insulin and their association with obesity indices in obese normo- and hypertensive patients - pilot study.
Mariusz Stępień,Rafał Nikodem Wlazeł,Marek Paradowski,Maciej Banach,Magdalena Rysz,Małgorzata Misztal,Jacek Rysz +6 more
TL;DR: Indices of abdominal obesity (WC, WHR) correlate better than BMI with HOMA-IR, insulin, adiponectin and leptin serum levels in hypertensive obese patients, suggesting that insulin resistance and leptin may be important pathogenic factors in hypertension patients with severe obesity.

Predictors of Insulin Resistance in Patients With Obesity: A Pilot Study
Mariusz Stępień,Anna Stępień,Rafał Nikodem Wlazeł,Marek Paradowski,Manfredi Rizzo,Maciej Banach,Jacek Rysz +6 more
TL;DR: The BAI strongly correlated with adiponectin and leptin in group B and is associated with visceral adiposity described by VAI and WC, suggesting the BAI may be a useful index in obese patients, especially with insulin resistance.

The association between galectin-3 and clinical parameters in patients with first acute myocardial infarction treated with primary percutaneous coronary angioplasty.
Iwona Szadkowska,Rafał Nikodem Wlazeł,Marta Migała,Krzysztof Szadkowski,Marzenna Zielińska,Marek Paradowski,Lucjan Pawlicki +6 more
TL;DR: Elevated galectin-3 levels were associated with a higher rate of new-onset AF and diuretics treatment during hospitalization in patients with first MI treated with pPCI without prior HF.
Assessment of the relationship between lipid parameters and obesity indices in non-diabetic obese patients: a preliminary report
TL;DR: Obesity is associated with lipid disturbances, especially with HDL-C reduction, in obese non-diabetic patients, and VAI is strongly related to lipid profile and thus may be the most valuable obesity index in obese patients with dyslipidemias.
