Methods of coke quality prediction: A review

Coal-waste dumps are an integral part of the environment and shape the landscape of coal basins. This study aimed to present an analysis of environmental changes in terms of land use and changes in vegetation on self-heating coal-waste dumps of different ages. Spatial and temporal analyses of land relief and land cover in the area of the investigated coal-waste dumps were performed. The investigated areas differed in size, shape, management, and land cover. Thermally active zones were identified. The results showed that the species composition of the flora is diverse, but representatives of the Asteraceae family dominate on both dumps. The diversity of flora in the investigated dumps depends on the presence of mosaic- and microhabitats (often of an extreme nature) and the nature of the vegetation in the surroundings, which is manifested by the participation of socioecological groups of flora. The pace and dynamics of succession on burning coal-waste dumps depends on the stage of the fire, the topography, and the nature of the substrate. The investigated changes in the elements of the environment are important from the point of view of application research and monitoring of postindustrial areas, which may allow for the optimal management of postmining dumps.

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki pomiarow kinetyki adsorpcji metanu na weglu wykonane metodą gra­wimetryczną. Rejestracja czasowych zmian sorpcji metanu na weglu oraz wykorzystanie uniporowego modelu dyfuzji pozwolilo na wyznaczenie wspolczynnikow dyfuzji metanu na weglu w temperaturach od 291 K do 331 K i przy ciśnieniach do 1,7 MPa. Wyniki pokazują, ze wartośc wspolczynnika dyfuzji rośnie ze wzrostem tem­peratury. Zaleznośc pomiedzy temperaturą a wspolczynnikiem dyfuzji wydaje sie byc liniowa. Badania desorpcji wykonane w warunkach takich jak pomiar sorpcji pokazaly, ze przy nizszych ciśnieniach sorpcja jest procesem prze- biegającym szybciej. Roznice w kinetykach zanikająprzy ciśnieniu okolo 1,3 MPa. Wartośc wspolczynnika dyfuzji zalezna jest rowniez od ciśnienia rownowagowego, co wskazuje, ze wspolczynnik ten nie jest stalą materialową ukladu wegiel-gaz. W pracy przypomniano rowniez rozwazania Timofeewa na temat wspolczynnika dyfuzji. Autor ten wiąze wspolczynnik dyfuzji z liniową izotermą Henry’ego. Wyniki pokazują, ze wspolczynnik dyfuzji wedlug koncepcji Timofeewa charakteryzuje sie mniejszą zmiennością wywolaną zmianami ciśnienia w porownaniu z koncepcją Crank’a. W temperaturach powyzej 311 K wspolczynnik dyfuzji wedlug Timofeewa wydaje sie byc niezalezny od ciśnienia

The methods of determining changes in the parameter values of coal quality in a deposit are described in consideration of Polish national and international standards, with the use of modern computer-aided tools (AutoCAD, Surfer) Options of combining the software for the estimation of coal quality in a deposit are discussed, also for designation zones of the occurrence of coal with required quality parameters The usability (easiness and convenience) of using international standards in estimating coal quality is shown, especially in view of modern information technologies The differences in the principles of hard coal quality estimation according to the ECE standards and the Polish Standard are indicated

Estimation of the Hard Coal Quality in a Deposit in View of National and International Standards

The scope of the study is the description of coking properties (Roga Index RI, Swelling Index SI, contraction a, and dilatation b) changing with depth in Zofiowka monocline deposit. The results were derived from an area which is of crucial importance to the Polish coking coal resources base, characterised by considerable variability of coal quality and coal rank. About 2,7 thousand samples of coking properties were considered for channel samples collected at the seams of currently operating coal mines. The objective of the research was to designate possible trends in the changes of the coking parameters of coal in deeper, so far unexcavated seams and the forecasts of these parameters. The mean values of coking parameters change with the depth of deposition, initially rising up to the depth of about –300 m, and next, rendering fairly constant values, whereas, decreasing from the depth of –700 m. 87

THE RECOGNITION OF GEOLOGICAL CONDITIONS OF COKING COAL OCCURRENCE IN THE JASTRZĘBIE AREA FOR THE PROJECT: SMART COKE PLANT FULFILLING REQUIREMENTS OF BEST AVAILABLE TECHNIQUES Abstract. The paper presents the results concerning vertical and lateral variability of coking coal quality in the Zofiowka Monocline (SW part of USCB). In this area, the Zofiowka and Pniowek coal mines are located. They are of primary importance for the resources of coking coals in Poland. The results were obtained within a framework of the project entitled "Smart coke plant fulfilling requirements of best available techniques", financed by EU means. The procedure for the recognition of geological-mining conditions of coking coals occurrence, technical possibilities of coal mines and logistics of coal extraction were combined. Fulfillment of requirements for mining and ore geology makes possible to do a digital database on coking coal quality. Implementation of the project allows for a more efficient management of resources, and coke producers have possibilities of coal mines to deliver coal of desirable quality. The deposit of the Zofiowka Monocline is characterized by a wide variability of coal quality and rank and specific petrographic composition (increase of inertinite macerals content and presence of fluorescence bituminous substance). The paper shows the range and directions of changes of coal quality parameters in the deposit.
