A functional splice variant associated with decreased asthma risk abolishes the ability of gasdermin B to induce epithelial cell pyroptosis
Ronald Allan M Panganiban,Maoyun Sun,Amber Dahlin,Hae-Ryung Park,Mengyuan Kan,Blanca E. Himes,Jennifer A. Mitchel,Carlos Iribarren,Eric Jorgenson,Scott H. Randell,Elliot Israel,Kelan G. Tantisira,Stephanie A. Shore,Jin-Ah Park,Scott T. Weiss,Ann Chen Wu,Quan Lu +16 more
TL;DR: It is found that, when the GSDMB protein is cleaved by inflammatory caspase‐1 to release its N‐terminal fragment, potent pyroptotic cell death is induced and implicates G SDMB‐mediated epithelial cell pyroPTosis in pathogenesis.

Neuregulin-1 attenuated doxorubicin-induced decrease in cardiac troponins
Yun Bian,Maoyun Sun,Marcy Silver,Kalon K.L. Ho,Mark A. Marchionni,Anthony O. Caggiano,James R. Stone,Ivo Amende,Thomas G. Hampton,James P. Morgan,Xinhua Yan +10 more
TL;DR: NRG1 attenuates Dox-induced decrease in cardiac troponins by increasing transcription and translation and by inhibiting caspase activation and proteasome degradation of troponin proteins, which may lessen Dox -induced cardiac dysfunction.

Genome-wide CRISPR screen identifies suppressors of endoplasmic reticulum stress-induced apoptosis
Ronald Allan M Panganiban,Hae-Ryung Park,Maoyun Sun,Maya Shumyatcher,Blanca E. Himes,Quan Lu +5 more
TL;DR: This study identifies and characterization of cellular suppressors of ER stress-induced apoptosis and reveals regulatory mechanisms that ameliorate potentially damaging stress response and provides potential therapeutic targets for pathologies whose etiology is linked to overactive ER stress response.

Improving murine embryonic stem cell differentiation into cardiomyocytes with neuregulin-1: differential expression of microRNA
TL;DR: This is the first report demonstrating that microRNAs are differentially regulated by NRG1-ErbB signaling during cardiac differentiation of ESCs, and has also identified new micro RNAs that are important for ESC cardiac differentiation.

COPD-associated miR-145-5p is downregulated in early-decline FEV1 trajectories in childhood asthma.
Anshul Tiwari,Jiang Li,Alvin T. Kho,Alvin T. Kho,Maoyun Sun,Quan Lu,Scott T. Weiss,Kelan G. Tantisira,Michael J. McGeachie +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper, small RNA sequencing was performed on sera from 492 children with mild-to-moderate asthma from the CAMP clinical trial, who were subsequently followed for 12 to 16 years.
