Abstract The increase in the global population has led to a substantial increase in the demand for food supply as well as food manufacturing industries that regularly produce large amounts of food waste. Agro-industrial waste has attracted tremendous attention all over the world since ancient times, such waste is usually dumped or burned and poses a threat to human health and the environment, which has always been a matter of serious concern. However, food waste is a major source of complex carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, vitamins, minerals, fibers, and helps in the manufacture of raw materials for a variety of industrial purposes such as the production of biofuels, enzymes, bioactive compounds, biodegradable plastics, surfactants. Hence it is necessary to convert food waste into value-added products that reduce environmental problems. The present review paper attempts to outline and analyze the potential of agro-industrial residues as cost-effective substrates to produce the enzyme amylase using a wide range of microbial strains. Agro-industrial waste: a cost-effective and eco-friendly substrate to produce amylase

Biomass waste must be treated and disposed off properly, as it concerns the possibility of deposition in the environment. This could worsen the ecosystem by promoting the growth of pathogens, producing poisonous fumes, releasing ammonia and other dangerous gases into the atmosphere. Therefore, researchers are exploring different direct biomass waste applications. One such application is biotechnological options with financial and environmental benefits like lowering the consumption of fossil fuels, reducing harmful emissions, accelerating the synthesis of low-cost raw materials, and fostering an environment that is favourable for a broad range of microorganisms. In recent years, biofuel has emerged as the primary source of bio-energy by replacing fossil fuels that can meet the global energy demands and lower greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. This review explores the potential of biomass waste conversion techniques and examines the production of biofuels to achieve zero carbon emissions. Critical research has also been done to improve the anaerobic treatment method of the biochemical conversion method. Apart from these, the advancements in the study of metabolic engineering techniques and artificial intelligence in the production of biofuel and strategies along with microbial chassis to enhance production of biofuel in an efficient manner were also studied. Finally, challenges and future perspectives of biofuels were delineated. 

A review on emerging technologies and machine learning approaches for sustainable production of biofuel from biomass waste

Tick and tick-borne disease control have been a serious research focus for many decades. In a global climate of increasing acaricide resistance, host immunity against tick infestation has become a much-needed complementary strategy to common chemical control. From the earliest acquired resistance studies in small animal models to proof of concept in large production animals, it was the isolation, characterization, and final recombinant protein production of the midgut antigen Bm86 from the Australian cattle tick strain of Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus (later reinstated as R. (B.) australis) that established tick subunit vaccines as a viable alternative in tick and tick-borne disease control. In the past 37 years, this antigen has spawned numerous tick subunit vaccines (either Bm86-based or novel), and though we are still describing its molecular structure and function, this antigen remains the gold standard for all tick vaccines. In this paper, advances in tick vaccine development over the past three decades are discussed alongside the development of biotechnology, where existing gaps and future directives in the field are highlighted.

Advances in immobilization of phytases and their application.

The objective of this review is to provide a deep overview of liquid biofuels produced from sugarcane bagasse and to address the economic challenges of an ethanol and acetone-butanol-ethanol blend in commercial processes. The chemistry of sugarcane bagasse is presented. Pretreatment technologies such as physical, chemical pretreatment, biological, and combination pretreatments used in the fermentation process are also provided and summarised. Different types of anaerobic bacteria Clostridia (yeast) are discussed to identify the ingredient best suited for sugarcane bagasse, which can assist the industry in commercializing ethanol and acetone-butanol-ethanol biofuel from biomass sugarcane. The use of an acetone-butanol-ethanol mixture and ethanol blend in internal combustion engines is also discussed. The literature then supports the proposal of the best operating conditions for fermentation to enhance ethanol and acetone-butanol-ethanol plant efficiency in the sugar waste industry and its application in internal combustion engines.

Sugarcane bagasse: an important lignocellulosic substrate for production of enzymes and biofuels

The immunoprophylactic management of ticks is the most effective option to control tick infestations and counter spread the acaricide resistance problem worldwide. Several researchers reported an inconsistent efficacy of the single antigen-based immunization of hosts against different tick species. In the present study, to develop a multi-target immunization protocol, proteins from Rhipicephalus microplus BM86 and Hyalomma anatolicum subolesin (SUB) and tropomyosin (TPM) were targeted to evaluate the cross-protective potential. The sequence identities of the BM86, SUB, and TPM coding genes amongst Indian tick isolates of targeted species were 95.6–99.8%, 98.7–99.6%, and 98.9–99.9%, respectively, while at the predicted amino acid level, the identities were 93.2 to 99.5, 97.6 to 99.4, and 98.2 to 99.3%. The targeted genes were expressed in the eukaryotic expression system, pKLAC2-Kluyveromyces lactis, and 100 µg each of purified recombinant protein (Bm86-89 kDa, SUB-21 kDa, and TPM-36 kDa) mixed with adjuvant was injected individually through the intramuscular route at different sites of the body on days 0, 30, and 60 to immunize cross-bred cattle. Post-immunization, a statistically significant (p < 0.001) antibody response (IgG, IgG1, and IgG2) in comparison to the control, starting from 15 to 140 days, against each antigen was recorded. Following multi-antigen immunization, the animals were challenged twice with the larvae of R. microplus and H. anatolicum and theadults of H. anatolicum, and a significant vaccine efficacy of 87.2% and 86.2% against H. anatolicum larvae and adults, respectively, and 86.7% against R. microplus was obtained. The current study provides significant support to develop a multi-antigen vaccine against cattle tick species.

Co-Immunization Efficacy of Recombinant Antigens against Rhipicephalus microplus and Hyalomma anatolicumTick Infestations

Microbial phytases are potentially excellent candidates for eliminating anti-nutrient i.e. phytic acid, due to hydrolysis of phospho-monoester linkages present in the phytic acid. An average 2.29-fold increase in phytase production was obtained after statistical optimization in solid-state fermentation. Aspergillus oryzae SBS50 phytase was immobilized on a Ca-alginate matrix with an effectiveness of 53%. Immobilized-phytase retained > 50% activity after recycling for five cycles and also displayed more stability in the presence of organic solvents, metal ions, and detergents as compared to free enzyme. Values of Km and Vmax of immobilized phytase were recorded as 0.66 mM and 666.6 nmol/sec, respectively. Immobilized phytase efficiently hydrolyzed the phytate contents in wheat and pearl millet flours, exhibiting > 70% catalytic activity even after three cycles. Phytase supplementation resulted in the improved nutritional quality of these flours. Furthermore, the safety assessment of the treated and untreated samples reveals the absence of any aflatoxin in the phytase produced by the mould. The results revealed the improved stability of phytase after immobilization and as a safe and significant additive for application in the food industry.

Enhanced production and immobilization of phytase from Aspergillus oryzae: a safe and ideal food supplement for improving nutrition.

Seasonal incidence of insect-pests viz. Etiella zinckenella, Helicoverpa armigera , Polyommatus boeticus , Chromatomyia horticola and Caliothrips indicus on field pea was studied under field conditions during rabi 2015-16. Peak population of H. armigera (1.22 larvae/ plants) , E. zinckenella (5.94 larvae/plant) , P. boeticus (1.55 larvae/plant), C. horticola (3.4 larvae/leaf) and C. indicus (3.05 /plant) was recorded on 8 th , 10 th , 12 th , 8 th and 7 th Standard meteorological weeks (SMW), respectively. Etiella zinckenella population shows significant positive correlation with temperature (max.-min.) i.e. r=0.715* and 0.821*. However C. indicus and C. horticola population was found significant negatively correlated with temperature maximum (r=-0.508* and r=-0.712*) and minimum (r=-0.659* and r=-0.680*), respectively. Whereas positive and significant correlation was found between C. horticola population and morning relative humidity (r= 0.731*).

Seasonal incidence of major insect pests infesting field pea

Background: Etiella zinckenella (Treitschke), an important and destructive pest of lentils and peas owing to its feeding habit. Aim: The present study aims to investigate the biology and morphometrics of Etiella zinckenella (lepidoptera) on lentil under laboratory conditions. Study Design: Laboratory experiment carried out on biological parameters of Etiella zinckenella in the department of Entomology, CCSHAU and Hisar. Results: Study revealed that a single female could lay 46-65eggs (average 56.3 eggs) preferably singly on pods, flowers, calyx and leaves of lentil. Incubation period of the eggs varied from 5.18 to 5.38 days (average 5.24 days). After egg hatching, larvae passed through 5 larval instars. Total larval and pupal period was observed on an average 16.9 and 13.38 days, respectively. Adult longevity of male and female was found on an average 4.1 and 5.6 days respectively. Etiella zinckenella completed its total life cycle in 37-45 days.
