This article studies the hierarchical sliding-mode surface (HSMS)-based adaptive optimal control problem for a class of switched continuous-time (CT) nonlinear systems with unknown perturbation under an actor&#x2013;critic (AC) neural networks (NNs) architecture. First, a novel perturbation observer with a nested parameter adaptive law is designed to estimate the unknown perturbation. Then, by constructing an especial cost function related to HSMS, the original control issue is further converted into the problem of finding a series of optimal control policies. The solution to the HJB equation is identified by the HSMS-based AC NNs, where the actor and critic updating laws are developed to implement the reinforcement learning (RL) strategy simultaneously. The critic update law is designed via the gradient descent approach and the principle of standardization, such that the persistence of excitation (PE) condition is no longer needed. Based on the Lyapunov stability theory, all the signals of the closed-loop switched nonlinear systems are strictly proved to be bounded in the sense of uniformly ultimate boundedness (UUB). Finally, the simulation results are presented to verify the validity of the proposed adaptive optimal control scheme.

Permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) are commonly used in the automation industry. With the speedy development of digital system processors, predictive control as a modern control scheme has been applied to improve the dynamic performance and work efficiency of PMSMs. This paper provides an overview of the research status of PMSM-based predictive control strategies. The deficiencies of the three most popular predictive schemes, deadbeat predictive control, finite-control-set model predictive control, and continuous-control-set model predictive control, and existing improvement strategies such as delay compensation schemes, robust control schemes, and multi-vector control schemes, are summarized. Finally, current technological trends are discussed, emphasizing future research directions for predictive control in PMSM drive systems.

Overview of Predictive Control Technology for Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor Systems

To optimize performances such as continuous curvature, safety, and satisfying curvature constraints of the initial planning path for driverless vehicles in parallel parking, a novel method is proposed to train control points of the Bezier curve using the radial basis function neural network method. Firstly, the composition and working process of an autonomous parking system are analyzed. An experiment concerning parking space detection is conducted using an Arduino intelligent minicar with ultrasonic sensor. Based on the analysis of the parallel parking process of experienced drivers and the idea of simulating a human driver, the initial path is planned via an arc-line-arc three segment composite curve and fitted by a quintic Bezier curve to make up for the discontinuity of curvature. Then, the radial basis function neural network is established, and slopes of points of the initial path are used as input to train and obtain horizontal ordinates of four control points in the middle of the Bezier curve. Finally, simulation experiments are carried out by MATLAB, whereby parallel parking of driverless vehicle is simulated, and the effects of the proposed method are verified. Results show the trained and optimized Bezier curve as a planning path meets the requirements of continuous curvature, safety, and curvature constraints, thus improving the abilities for parallel parking in small parking spaces.

Path Planning Optimization for Driverless Vehicle in Parallel Parking Integrating Radial Basis Function Neural Network

Mobile robot is an automatic vehicle with wheels that can be moved automatically from one place to another. A motor is built in its wheels for mobility purposes, which is controlled using a controller. DC motor speed is controlled by the proportional integral derivative (PID) controller. Kinematic modeling is used in our work to understand the mechanical behavior of robots for designing the appropriate mobile robots. Right and left wheel velocity and direction are calculated by using the kinematic modeling, and the kinematic modeling is given to the PID controller to gain the output. Motor speed is controlled by the PID low-level controller for the robot mobility; the speed controlling is done using the constant values Kd, Kp, and Ki which depend on the past, future, and present errors. For better control performance, the integral gain, differential gain, and proportional gain are adjusted by the PID controller. Robot speed may vary by changing the direction of the vehicle, so to avoid this the Social Spider Optimization (SSO) algorithm is used in PID controllers. PID controller parameter tuning is hard by using separate algorithms, so the parameters are tuned by the SSO algorithm which is a novel nature-inspired algorithm. The main goal of this paper is to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach in achieving precise speed control of the robot, particularly in the presence of disturbances and uncertainties.

Speed Control of Wheeled Mobile Robot by Nature-Inspired Social Spider Algorithm-Based PID Controller

This paper introduces a novel and robust data-driven algorithm designed for Aircraft Trajectory Prediction (ATP). The approach employs a Neural Network architecture to predict future aircraft trajectories, utilizing input variables such as latitude, longitude, altitude, heading, speed, and time. The model’s foundation is rooted in the Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) framework, known for its inherent generative capabilities, rendering it remarkably resilient against Adversarial Attacks. To enhance its credibility, the Blockchain is employed as a Ledger Technology (LT) to securely store legitimate predicted values utilized in subsequent trajectory predictions. The Blockchain ensures that only authorized and non-adversarial samples are stored in the blocks, rejecting any adversarial predictions. In the validation process, trajectory data for training the GAN model were generated through the UAS-S4 Ehécatl simulation model. The performance evaluation relies on the model’s resistance to adversarial attacks, measured by fooling rates. The results acquired affirm the excellent efficacy of the GAN model, Secured by Blockchain, approaching against adversarial attacks. 

Aircraft Trajectory Prediction Enhanced through Resilient Generative Adversarial Networks Secured by Blockchain: Application to UAS-S4 Ehécatl

For the parallel parking problem in narrow space, this paper proposes a trajectory tracking control method with a novel trajectory planning layer for autonomous parallel parking based on a numerical optimization algorithm and model predictive control. In the trajectory planning layer, the vehicle kinematics model suitable for the low-velocity parking scene is established. Considering the vehicle physical constraints, boundary condition constraints, and obstacle avoidance constraints during the parking process, the parking trajectory planning task is described as an optimal control problem, further transformed into a nonlinear programming problem by Gauss pseudo-spectral method. Taking the shortest parking completion time as the optimization objective function, the parking trajectories of the large, medium and small parking spaces are obtained, respectively. A parking trajectory tracking controller based on the model predictive control algorithm is designed in the trajectory tracking control layer. The linear error model is used as the prediction model, and the quadratic programming is adopted as the rolling optimization algorithm in the tracking controller. The velocity and front-wheel swing angle are obtained as control signals for parking trajectory tracking. Through CarSim and Simulink’s co-simulation, the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed parallel parking trajectory planning and tracking control method are verified. The co-simulation results show that the maximum tracking errors of horizontal and longitudinal positions are less than 0.15m. The maximum tracking errors of heading angle are less than 2° under three different parking spaces. Real vehicle tests are carried out to verify the effectiveness of the proposed hierarchical control method. The test results show that the vehicle can park in the parking space safely, quickly and accurately when the actual parking space is detected. The proposed method can plan the parking trajectory with the constraints and the shortest time and control the vehicle to complete the parking operation accurately along the planned trajectory.
