TL;DR: The fungus Penicillium canescens was isolated from the inner tissue of the Mediterranian sponge Agelas oroides and yielded one new chlorinated diphenyl ether and 13 known compounds, which are the first example of azaphilones with the connection of a benzene moiety and the pyranoquinone core through a methylene group.

Dina H. El-Kashef,Dina H. El-Kashef,Georgios Daletos,Malte Plenker,Rudolf Hartmann,Attila Mándi,Tibor Kurtán,Horst Weber,Wenhan Lin,Elena Ancheeva,Peter Proksch +10 more
TL;DR: Three new natural products, including two butenolide derivatives and one dihydroquinolone derivative, together with nine known natural products were isolated from a marine-derived strain of the fungus Metarhizium marquandii, suggesting that the fungus produces aflaquinolone I with a different configuration (chiral switching).
