A quantitative investigation of neuronal cytoplasmic and intranuclear inclusions in the pontine and inferior olivary nuclei in multiple system atrophy

Multinucleated astrocytes in old demyelinated plaques in a patient with multiple sclerosis.
Makoto Nishie,Fumiaki Mori,Masaya Ogawa,Seiya Sannohe,Kouzou Tanno,Kozo Kurahashi,Naohito Kuroda,Koichi Wakabayashi +7 more
TL;DR: A post‐mortem examination of a 51‐year‐old woman with MS revealed numerous demyelinated plaques that exhibited fibrillary gliosis with Rosenthal fibers, but without lymphocytic cuffing or foamy macrophages, suggesting that mild persistent inflammatory processes are present even in old plaques.
