Further provided are a fiber-reinforced composite material having less volatile matters during the curing time, and having excellent heat resistance and strength properties, an epoxy resin composition to obtain the fiber-reinforced composite material, and a prepreg obtained by using the epoxy resin composition. Provided are: an epoxy resin composition for a fiber-reinforced composite material, comprising an amine type epoxy resin [A], an aromatic amine curing agent [B], and a block copolymer [C] having a reactive group capable of reacting with an epoxy resin; a prepreg obtained by impregnating a reinforced fiber with the epoxy resin composition; and a fiber-reinforced composite material obtained by curing the prepreg. Further provided are: an epoxy resin composition comprising an epoxy resin [A] having two or more of four- or more-membered ring structures, and having either one of a glycidyl amino group directly bonded to the ring structure or a glycidyl ether group directly bonded to the ring structure, epoxy resin [B] having three or more of functional groups, a curing agent [C], and an elastomer component [D]; a prepreg obtained by impregnating a reinforced fiber with the epoxy resin composition; and a fiber-reinforced composite material obtained by curing the prepreg.

An epoxy resin composition comprising an epoxy resin [A], an amine-based curing agent [B] and a block copolymer [C] as components, wherein the epoxy resin [A] contains [Aa] an epoxy resin having at least one structure selected from a condensed polycyclic structure, biphenyl structure and oxazolidone ring structure; [Ab] an epoxy resin selected from a polyfunctional amine type epoxy resin [Ab1] and a liquid bisphenol type epoxy resin [Ab2], and the block copolymer [C] is at least one block copolymer selected from the group consisting of S-B-M, B-M and M-B-M. The present invention provides an epoxy resin composition that can be cured to form a cured product excellent in heat resistance, elastic modulus and toughness.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a composition excellent in resistance to soldering heat by using an epoxy resin containing a phenyl sulfide-type epoxy resin and a novolak epoxy resin, a curing agent containing a phenol-aralkyl resin, a cure accelerator containing a betaine-type adduct of an organic tertiary phosphine to p-benzoquinone, and an inorganic filler as essential ingredients. SOLUTION: The epoxy resin contains a phenyl sulfide-type epoxy resin of formula I and a novolak epoxy resin of formula II in a wt. ratio of (3/7)-(7/3). The curing agent contains at least 50 wt.% phenol-aralkyl resin of formula III. In the formulas, R1 to R4 are each H or a (substituted) 1-5C monovalent hydrocarbon group; (n) is 0-10; and R is H or a (substituted) 1-10C monovalent hydrocarbon group. The cure accelerator preferably contains a betaine-type adduct of triphenylphosphine to p-benzoquinone. The content of the inorganic filler is preferably 55-90 vol.% based on the total epoxy resin molding material.

[D] An curing agent for an epoxy resin. 0.2 ≤ A/(A+B+C+E) ≤ 0.6 (1) 0.2 ≤ B/(A+B+C+E) ≤ 0.6 (2) 0.15 ≤ C/(A+B+C+E) ≤ 0.4 (3) 0 ≤ E/(A+B+C+E) ≤ 0.2 (4) [In each formula, A, B and C represent the weights of components [A], [B] and [C], respectively; and E represents the weight of an epoxy resin other than components [A], [B] and [C].]

SOLUTION: A prepreg is composed of a carbon fiber satisfying the conditions [A] to [D] wherein [A] a tensile modulus is within 295±10, [B] a tensile strength is in a range from 5,400 to 6,500 MPa, [C] the cross section is substantially of a perfect circle, and [D] an average diameter of the fiber is in the range from 5.0 to 7.0 μm; and an epoxy resin composition containing [a] an epoxy resin containing 20 to 50 pts.wt. of an amine type epoxy resin with three or more functionalities, [b] 50 to 80 pts.wt. of a bisphenol F type epoxy resin, and [c] 2 to 10 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. of the epoxy resin of dicyandiamide or its derivative, the cured resin composition showing a bending modulus of 3.8 to 5.0 GPa.
