Monitoring International Travelers Arriving in Hong Kong for Genomic Surveillance of SARS-CoV-2
Haogao Gu,Samuel M.S. Cheng,Pavithra Krishnan,Daisy Y M Ng,L. Chang,G. Liu,S. Cheuk,Ma Hui,Mathew C.Y. Fan,Jacob H.L. Wan,L. H. Lau,Daniel Ka Wing Chu Chu,Vijaykrishna Dhanasekaran,Malik Peiris,Leo L.M. Poon +14 more
TL;DR: The genomic diversity detected in Hong Kong was similar to global diversity, suggesting travel hubs can play a substantial role in surveillance, and coronavirus disease cases imported to Hong Kong during March–July 2021 were sequenced.
Transmission of SARS-CoV-2 delta variant (AY.127) from pet hamsters to humans, leading to onward human-to-human transmission: a case study
Hui-Ling Yen,Thomas H. C. Sit,Christopher J. Brackman,Shirley S Y Chuk,Haogao Gu,Karina W. S. Tam,Pierra Y. T. Law,Gabriel M. Leung,Malik Peiris,Leo L.M. Poon,Samuel M.S. Cheng,L. Chang,Pavithra Krishnan,Daisy Y M Ng,G. Liu,Ma Hui,Sin Ying Ho,Wen Su,Sin Fun Sia,Ka-Tim Choy,S. Cheuk,Sylvia P. N. Lau,Amy W Y Tang,Joe Koo,Louise Yung +24 more
TL;DR: Pet hamsters can be naturally infected with SARS-CoV-2 and genetic and epidemiological results strongly suggest that there was more than one hamster-to-human transmission event in this study.
Recombinant BA.1/BA.2 SARS-CoV-2 Virus in Arriving Travelers, Hong Kong, February 2022
Haogao Gu,Daisy Y M Ng,G. Liu,Samuel M.S. Cheng,Pavithra Krishnan,L. Chang,S. Cheuk,Ma Hui,Tommy Ty Lam,Malik Peiris,Leo L.M. Poon +10 more
TL;DR: Investigation of SARS-CoV-2 genomes from travelers arriving in Hong Kong during November 2021–February 2022 detected a BA.1/BA.2 recombinant with a breakpoint near the 5′ end of the spike gene in 2 epidemiologically linked case-patients.
