Instrument description and performance of the Imaging Gamma-Ray Telescope COMPTEL aboard the Compton Gamma-Ray Observatory
Volker Schoenfelder,H. Aarts,K. Bennett,H. de Boer,J. Clear,Werner Collmar,A. Connors,A. Deerenberg,Roland Diehl,A. von Dordrecht,J. W. den Herder,W. Hermsen,M. Kippen,L. Kuiper,G. G. Lichti,J. A. Winkler +29 more
TL;DR: The Compton Gamma-Ray Observatory (COMPTEL) as discussed by the authors is a gamma-ray line spectrometer with an angular resolution between 1° and 2° within a large field of view of about 1 steradian.
The Imaging Compton Telescope Comptel on the Gamma Ray Observatory
V. Schönfelder,Roland Diehl,G. G. Lichti,Helmut Steinle,B. N. Swanenburg,A. Deerenberg,H. Aarts,J. A. Lockwood,W. Webber,John R. Macri,James M. Ryan,G. Simpson,B. G. Taylor,K. Bennett,M. Snelling +14 more
TL;DR: In this article, the Compton scattering collision in a first detector followed by an interaction in a second detector element was used to perform a very sensitive survey of the y-ray sky, and extreme care was taken to minimize background so that the detection limits of COMPTEL will be dominated by source counting statistics.

TL;DR: The imaging Compton telescope COMPTEL on the Gamma Ray Observatory has unusual spectroscopic capabilities for measuring solar γ-ray and neutron emissions as mentioned in this paper, which can be observed above the 800 keV threshold of the telescope.
