TL;DR: The NPDGamma collaboration reported results from the first phase of a measurement of the parity violating up-down asymmetry with respect to the neutron spin direction of the rays emitted in the reaction, using the capture of polarized cold neutrons on the protons in a liquid parahydrogen target.

TL;DR: A 16-l liquid parahydrogen target has been developed for a measurement of the parity-violating γ -asymmetry in the capture of polarized cold neutrons on protons in the n ⇒ + p → d + γ reaction by the NPDGamma collaboration as discussed by the authors.

TL;DR: The NPDGamma experiment as discussed by the authors measured the size of the weak nucleon-nucleon interaction from cold neutron capture on a liquid hydrogen target, and the results obtained so far show that the measured couplings in terms of either model are directly proportional to the parity violating up-down asymmetry in the angular distribution of gamma rays with respect to the neutron spin direction in the reaction n ⇒ + p → d + γ.
