TL;DR: In this article, the Eocene Eckfeld Maar lake was investigated for biomarker and stable isotope composition, and a trend towards heavier δ 18 O and δ 13 C values indicates the evolution of permanently meromictic conditions in the lake and an increase in methanogenesis.
