Relay selection is a technique that can considerably increase the performance of cooperative communications. In this paper, we propose a new relay selection algorithm using fuzzy logic aiming at both network lifetime and end-to-end throughput. The new algorithm operates in a distributed way, running independently at each node, not requiring a central entity for complex coordination. The method considers the channel state of the relay-destination link and the residual energy of its battery. It is shown that the proposed scheme can transmit a larger amount of information during the network lifetime with respect to both the opportunistic (which focuses on throughput) and random (which focuses on lifetime) selection algorithms, increasing the network utility.

Distributed Fuzzy Logic-Based Relay Selection Algorithm for Cooperative Wireless Sensor Networks

This article focuses the power allocation for the network coded cognitive cooperative network (NCCCN). Analog network coded (ANC) Orthogonal-Frequency-Division-Multiplexing (OFDM) improves the capacity of the cognitive cooperative network (CCN). Moreover, CCN enhances the spectrum utilization efficiency. A power allocation optimization problem have been formed that maximizes the data transmission rate of the NCCCN under the total transmit and peak-interference powers or the total transmit and average-interference powers. The spectral efficiency of the proposed network is compared with the spectral efficiency of CCN without ANC. Simulation results show that the proposed NCCCN enhances spectral efficiency in compared to the CCN without ANC.

Power Allocation for the Network Coded Cognitive Cooperative Network

Spectrum access achieves near-optimal spectrum utilization efficiency with the advent of cognitive radio technology. In cognitive radio network (CRN), each cognitive user, also called secondary user (SU), senses and uses radio spectrum opportunistically while regulating the interference constraint. This article focuses the radio resource allocation considering interference temperature constraints for the network coded cognitive cooperative network (NCCCN). Interference Temperature Constraint-based Radio Resource Allocation for the Network Coded Cognitive Cooperative Network (NCCCN)

In Wireless Sensor Networks large number of nodes and limited energy available per node calls for designing efficient transmission protocols. Cooperative transmission is one of the protocols which helps wireless nodes to achieve spatial diversity, which translates into reduction in transmission power or increase in coverage area. Cooperative protocol can be realized with or without (called conventional afterward) network coding; and the network-coding-based (respectively the conventional) protocol can be operated in either static or adaptive manner. For an efficient operation of cooperative protocols, good quality inter-source channels are required, which in turn depend on relative location of nodes within a network. In this work, a three-node cooperative network consisting of source, relay, and destination nodes is considered. At high signal to-noise ratio values, we first approximate the outage probability result when the network-coding-based adaptive protocol is implemented. Then, based on the approximate probability result, a diversity-multiplexing tradeoff is studied; the result shows that this protocol performs similar to an amplify-and-forward protocol. Next, for the various protocols, the coverage area and relative location of the relay that minimizes the outage are studied; for that the exact outage probability results are used. Over wider geographic area, network-coding-based static and adaptive protocols perform better than their conventional counterparts, and this happens when the relaying node is positioned closer to the destination than the source. The conventional protocols perform better when the relay is positioned closer to the source. In Wireless Sensor Networks, assuming that relay nodes which are closer to both the source and destination exist, these results help as a guide in selecting with which node to cooperate (relay selection) when one cooperative scheme is implemented.

Network-Coding-Based Cooperative Transmission in Wireless Sensor Networks: Diversity-Multiplexing Tradeoff and Coverage Area Extension

AbstractHigher rate of mobile data traffic demand is increased with the advent of the Internet of things (IoT) and advanced network services (ANS) operators that have begun to develop fifth generation (5G) cellular networks in order to overcome the limitations of the current fourth generation (4G) cellular network. In order to solve the bandwidth scarcity and effective allocation of spectrum resources and also provide higher demand of bandwidth, a multi-carrier code division multiple access (MC-CDMA)-based cognitive radio network (CRN) is proposed and the performance of this system is investigated in this research. MC-CDMA-based CRN improves the channel capacity of the cognitive cooperative network (CCN). Moreover, CCN enhances the spectrum utilization efficiency. Signal to noise plus interference ratio (SNIR) and the bit error rate (BER) are explored, as well as analytical derivations are investigated for performance analysis of our proposed model under Rayleigh fading channels. The comparison between our proposed model and conventional decode and forward (DAF) relaying is also included in the research and MC-CDMA-based cooperative relaying system with multiple receiving antenna schemes to show that the recommended approach is effective. The simulation as well as the numerical results are presented to demonstrate that the suggested cooperative relaying spectrum sharing technique is efficient.KeywordsMC-CDMACRNSNIRBEROutage capacityOutage probability
