Plasma acylcarnitine levels increase with healthy aging.
Zachery R. Jarrell,M. Ryan Smith,Xin Hu,Michael Orr,Ken H. Liu,Arshed A. Quyyumi,Dean P. Jones,Young-Mi Go +7 more
TL;DR: The results show that plasma concentrations of acylcarnitines vary with age and gender in individuals selected for criteria of health, highlighting a potential utility for untargeted metabolomics research to elucidate gender-specific mechanisms of aging and age-related disease.

Selenium at the redox interface of the genome, metabolome and exposome.
TL;DR: The experimental results confirm the survey of research literature in showing that Se interacts with the functional genome through a complex network response structure and imply that systematic application of data-driven integrated omics methods to models with controlled Se exposure could disentangle health benefits and risks from Se exposures.

Obesity reprograms the pulmonary polyunsaturated fatty acid-derived lipidome, transcriptome, and gene-oxylipin networks
Rafia Virk,Nicole Buddenbaum,Abrar E. Al-Shaer,Michael R. Armstrong,Jonathan P. Manke,Nichole Reisdorph,Selin Sergin,Jenifer I. Fenton,Emily D. Wallace,Brandie M. Ehrmann,Hannah B. Lovins,Kymberly M. Gowdy,M. Ryan Smith,Gregory C. Smith,Samir N. P. Kelada,Saame Raza Shaikh +15 more
TL;DR: In this paper , a high-fat diet (HFD) administered to C57BL/6J mice increased the relative abundance of pulmonary PUFA-containing triglycerides and the concentration of PUFA derived oxylipins (particularly prostaglandins and hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acids), independent of an increase in total pulmonary PUFAs, prior to onset of pulmonary inflammation.

Multiomics Analysis of Structural Magnetic Resonance Imaging of the Brain and Cerebrospinal Fluid Metabolomics in Cognitively Normal and Impaired Adults
Ronald C. Eldridge,Karan Uppal,Mahsa Shokouhi,M. Ryan Smith,Xin Hu,Zhaohui S. Qin,Dean P. Jones,Ihab Hajjar +7 more
TL;DR: By integrating CSF metabolomics data with structural MRI data, this work linked specific AD-susceptible brain regions to disrupted metabolic pathways involving nitrogen excretion and amino acid metabolism critical for cognitive function.
Plasma Metabolic Phenotypes of HPV-Associated versus Smoking-Associated Head and Neck Cancer and Patient Survival.
Ronald C. Eldridge,Karan Uppal,D. Neil Hayes,M. Ryan Smith,Xin Hu,Zhaohui S. Qin,Jonathan J. Beitler,Andrew H. Miller,Evanthia C. Wommack,Kristin Higgins,Dong M. Shin,Bryan C. Ulrich,David C. Qian,Nabil F. Saba,Deborah Watkins Bruner,Dean P. Jones,Canhua Xiao +16 more
TL;DR: In this paper, metabolic differences between human papillomavirus (HPV)-associated head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) and smoking-associated HNSCC may partially explain differences in prognosis.
