Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma: Clinical Features and Long-Term Follow-up of Seventy-Eight Patients Treated Between 1969 and 1986
Maria Elisa Girelli,Davide Nacamulli,Maria Rosa Pelizzo,D. De Vido,Caterina Mian,M. Piccolo,Benedetto Busnardo +6 more
TL;DR: Survival is strongly related to tumor stage and to age at diagnosis, because only 8 of the 34 deceased patients were younger than 45 years (and 2 of them died of unrelated causes); moreover, patients who were treated at earlier stages of the disease had better prognosis.

Usefulness of the combined antithyroglobulin antibodies and thyroglobulin assay in the follow-up of patients with differentiated thyroid cancer
TL;DR: It is observed that TgAb serum levels, measured after thyroid ablation, were significantly higher in cases with metastases than in those considered tumor-free, and serum IRMA-Tg assay appears to maintain its value as a tumoral marker in more than half the patients with metastase and circulating TgAbs.

Serum thyroglobulin levels in patients with well-differentiated thyroid cancer during suppression therapy: study on 429 patients.
Maria Elisa Girelli,Benedetto Busnardo,Renato Amerio,Giorgio Scotton,Dario Casara,Corrado Betterle,M. Piccolo,Maria Rosa Pelizzo +7 more
TL;DR: Patients with low levels of serum Tg during suppression therapy have a high probability of being free of disease, even though the presence of tumors cannot be excluded, on the other hand a value greater than the cut-off limit suggests the existence of metastases despite a negative scan.

Critical evaluation of serum thyroglobulin (Tg) levels during thyroid hormone suppression therapy versus Tg levels after hormone withdrawal and total body scan: results in 291 patients with thyroid cancer.
Maria Elisa Girelli,Benedetto Busnardo,Renato Amerio,Dario Casara,Corrado Betterle,M. Piccolo +5 more
TL;DR: Tg assays performed during suppressive therapy have a fairly good predictive value and can be used as a general guide in the follow-up of thyroid cancer, however, since most differentiated metastases produce Tg only when stimulated by thyroid-stimulating hormone, measurements of Tg levels after the discontinuation of suppressive Therapy would also seem to be necessary.

Metastatic thyroid carcinoma of the adrenal gland.
Maria Elisa Girelli,Dario Casara,Domenico Rubello,M. Piccolo,Andrea Piotto,Maria Rosa Pelizzo,Benedetto Busnardo +6 more
TL;DR: A case of follicular thyroid carcinoma with a single metastasis at the right adrenal gland, that was found 12 years after total thyroidectomy and radioiodine therapy, shows once again the importance of Tg serum levels during follow-up of differentiated thyroid cancer.
