Elevated S100B protein as an early indicator of intracranial haemorrhage in infants subjected to extracorporeal membrane oxygenation
TL;DR: Blood concentrations were significantly higher in the group of infants with ICH 72 h before any signs of haemorrhage could be detected by ultrasound, and the highest S100B levels were observed in the three ICH infants who expired during the ECMO procedure.

Adrenomedullin Blood Concentrations in Infants Subjected to Cardiopulmonary Bypass: Correlation with Monitoring Parameters and Prediction of Poor Neurological Outcome
Pasquale Florio,Raul Abella,Emanuela Marinoni,Romolo Di Iorio,Claudio Letizia,M Meli,Teresa de la Torre,Felice Petraglia,Alessandro Cazzaniga,Alessandro Giamberti,Alessandro Frigiola,Diego Gazzolo +11 more
TL;DR: AM concentrations and MCA PI patterns change during CPB, mainly in infants with brain damage, and may be useful for early identification of infants at risk for brain damage.

[The conversion of a modified Fontan procedure to a total extracardiac cavo-pulmonary conduit. The Medico-Surgical Cardiology Group].
Raul Abella,Stefano M. Marianeschi,T De la Torre,G Smedile,P Masetti,Adriano Cipriani,A Magherini,M Meli,Fiore S. Iorio,C. Marcelletti +9 more
TL;DR: The conversion of the modified Fontan procedure to total extracardiac cavo-pulmonary connection improves clinical condition by decreasing the right atrium-pulpmonary gradient and right atrial preload, and by providing a laminar cavo, pulmonary flow without any need for intracardiac anastomoses.

The role of a bidirectional cavopulmonary anastomosis in the correction and palliation of complex congenital cardiopathies
Iacona Gm,Stefano M. Marianeschi,Condoluci C,P Masetti,Raul Abella,G Smedile,M Meli,Adriano Cipriani,Fiore S. Iorio,C. Marcelletti +9 more
TL;DR: Bidirectional cavo-pulmonary anastomosis can be associated with biventricular repair in patients with diminutive right ventricles, amenable to anatomic complete correction, with good clinical outcome.

S100B blood levels correlate with rewarming time and cerebral Doppler in pediatric open heart surgery.
Diego Gazzolo,Paolo Masetti,Paola Vinesi,M Meli,Raul Abella,Carlo Marcelletti,Fabrizio Michetti +6 more
TL;DR: The present results show a significant correlation between a biochemical marker of brain damage and an index of increased cerebrovascular resistance, with higher levels during the rewarming CPB phase in pediatric open heart surgery.
