Synthesis and anticonvulsant activity of 2(3H)-benzoxazolone and 2(3H)-benzothiazolone derivatives.
H Ucar,K. Van Derpoorten,S. Cacciaguerra,Santi Spampinato,James P. Stables,Paul Depovere,M. Isa,Bernard Masereel,J. Delarge,Jacques H. Poupaert +9 more
TL;DR: In vitro receptor binding studies revealed that compounds 43 and 45 bind to sigma 1 receptors with nanomolar affinities, and several of these compounds showed significant anticonvulsant activity.

2(3H)-benzoxazolone and 2(3H)-benzothiazolone derivatives: novel, potent and selective sigma1 receptor ligands.
H Ucar,S Cacciaguerra,Santi Spampinato,K. Van Derpoorten,M. Isa,M Kanyonyo,Jacques H. Poupaert +6 more
TL;DR: 1, administered intraperitoneally, was the most effective against maximal electroshock-induced seizures and was devoid of significant neurotoxic effects, and these novel sigma receptor ligands were assayed, in mice, in three tests.

"Fries like" rearrangement: a novel and efficient method for the synthesis of 6-acyl-2(3H)-benzoxazolones and 6-acyl-2(3H)-benzothiazolones
H Ucar,K. Van Derpoorten,Paul Depovere,Daniel Lesieur,M. Isa,Bernard Masereel,Jacques Delarge,Jacques H. Poupaert +7 more
TL;DR: This new procedure was found to be more efficient with regard to the consumption of AlCl3 and the yield than other acylation methods previously described.

Base catalysis in the Willgerodt-Kindler reaction
TL;DR: The WK reaction is useful only when the number of methylene groups is less than 3.5 as discussed by the authors, and it is noteworthy that the yield drops sharply when the numbers of methylenes linking the carbonyl to the terminal methyl group increases.

“Fries Like” Rearrangement: A Novel and Efficient Method for the Synthesis of 6‐Acyl‐2(3H)‐benzoxazolones and 6‐Acyl‐2(3H)‐benzothiazolones.
H Ucar,K. Van Derpoorten,Paul Depovere,Daniel Lesieur,M. Isa,Bernard Masereel,Jacques Delarge,Jacques H. Poupaert +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, a two-step procedure involving migration of the acyl group from the N-position to the 6-position of the heterocycle, at 165 degrees C and catalyzed by AlCl3 was described.
