Real-time integrated analytics is especially beneficial in a production context. We present an architecture for data- and analytics-driven exception escalation in manufacturing and show the advantages of integrating unstructured data.

MaXCept -- Decision Support in Exception Handling through Unstructured Data Integration in the Production Context: An Integral Part of the Smart Factory

The objective of this study is to propose a conceptual model that blends the dimensions of knowledge management, information technology capability, innovative culture and firm innovativeness into a single framework for practitioners and academicians. In conceptualising the model, this study reviewed a range of existing literature. The findings identified: 1) four processes of knowledge management that represent the construct; 2) information technology capability as a variable that mediates the relationship between knowledge management and firm innovativeness; 3) innovative culture as a variable that moderates the link between knowledge management and information technology capability. The resulting conceptualisation is meant for evaluating the potential strategic model for firms to implement information technology capability and innovative culture. It is posited that the proposed conceptual model, when implemented, would give practitioners a better understanding of factors that enhance firm innovativeness.

The novel concepts and practices of firm innovativeness: the mediating and moderating impacts

Due to a shortage of key competencies in organisations and the rising challenge to find the right person to do a job, organisations are under pressure to assess, monitor and continuously develop their workers’ competencies. At the same time, enterprise systems offer data that provide a basis for strategic decisions in the area of competence development. This domain was investigated with two case studies in two medium-sized organisations and a set of parameters describing workers, tasks, competencies, and learning measures, was derived that can be used to solve the decision problem of allocating workers to learning measures. The resulting model was reviewed in a first evaluation cycle on a micro, meso, and macro level, involving 203 employees, 16 focus group participants and six human resource experts, respectively. The feedback from the evaluation informed a revision of the model, adding factors that describe competencies of promoted team members. The preliminary results comprise an updated optimisation model as well as a set of challenges for competence development derived from the first evaluation cycle.

Knowledge transfer plays an important role in digital Service Creation Projects where information should flow through service design, Agile UX, and software implementation phases. One context for these handovers exists in projects where the service designers participate in the early phases of exploring and scoping the service, while agile user experience specialists take over the digital parts of service design and programmers the software implementation. The purpose of this study is to summarise scientific knowledge into best practices for effective information flow in real world Service Creation Projects. Special attention is paid on an important and understudied project phase, knowledge handover from service design to software implementation, which is referred as Service Design Handover in this study. A systematic literature review was conducted to analyse the current scientific knowledge on knowledge transfer in digital Service Creation Projects. PRISMA 2020 statement was used for reporting the review, which also influenced planning and execution of the systematic review process. SCOPUS search brought up 773 publications, and the full content analysis was done for the 41 most relevant publications. Based on the literature analysis, the best practices for effective knowledge transfer are related to communication quality and quantity, circumventing the need for communication, and verifying successful communication. To provide an overview of effective knowledge transfer, frameworks of Service Creation Project information flow and Service Design Handover are proposed. The existing knowledge transfer literature is voluminous, but this literature review is the first to study knowledge transfer in Service Creation Project context. The framework, best practices, and list of potential problem sources in knowledge transfer provide new knowledge for managing the information flow in service creation. The research gaps found in this literature review show the need for future research, such as empirical studies on service creation practice. • First systematic literature review on Service Design Handover. • Information flow framework for Service Creation Projects. • Initial framework for Service Design Handover to Agile UX. • Service vision, user stories and prototype are the most critical boundary objects for the Service Design Handover. 

Service Design Handover to user experience design - a systematic literature review

In the context of designing supportive organizational and IT-based measures, understanding the effects of knowledge application and the support for innovation in different team settings are topics that have received increased scholarly attention. While the effects of knowledge application and support for innovation have been investigated and confirmed independently from each other, their joint influence in connection with team characteristics remains unexplored. This paper fills this gap by examining how and why team characteristics, such as task organization, task non-routine ness, IT support and the integration of expertise, come to affect team performance. Our analysis of survey data collected from 203 team members in two medium-sized organizations suggests that the factors 'knowledge application', 'support for innovation', 'task organization' and 'IT support' all exert some influence on team performance. Additional focus group data provided insights into measures, which organizations and managers can adopt to improve the performances of their teams.
