We report high performance p-type field-effect transistors based on single layered (thickness, ∼0.7 nm) WSe(2) as the active channel with chemically doped source/drain contacts and high-κ gate dielectrics. The top-gated monolayer transistors exhibit a high effective hole mobility of ∼250 cm(2)/(V s), perfect subthreshold swing of ∼60 mV/dec, and I(ON)/I(OFF) of >10(6) at room temperature. Special attention is given to lowering the contact resistance for hole injection by using high work function Pd contacts along with degenerate surface doping of the contacts by patterned NO(2) chemisorption on WSe(2). The results here present a promising material system and device architecture for p-type monolayer transistors with excellent characteristics.

High-performance single layered WSe₂ p-FETs with chemically doped contacts.

Synchrotron-based high-resolution photoemission and X-ray absorption near-edge spectroscopy (XANES) have been used to study the interaction of NO2 with polycrystalline surfaces of metallic zinc and zinc oxide. NO2 exhibits a complex chemistry on metallic zinc. After adsorbing nitrogen dioxide, N, O, NO, NO2, and NO3 are present on the surface of the metal. At room temperature the NO2 molecule mainly dissociates into O adatoms and gaseous NO, whereas at low temperatures (<250 K) chemisorbed NO2 and NO3 dominate on the surface. NO2 is a very good oxidizing agent for preparing ZnO from metallic zinc. Zn reacts more vigorously with NO2 than metals, such as Rh, Pd, or Pt which are typical catalysts for the removal of NOx molecules (DeNOx process). At 300 K, the main product of the reaction of NO2 with polycrystalline ZnO is adsorbed NO3 with little NO2 or NO present on the surface of the oxide. Reaction of NO2 with Zn and ZnO: Photoemission, XANES, and Density Functional Studies on the Formation of NO3

The diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) has been part of diesel exhaust systems since regulations were introduced to limit the amount of harmful emissions released to the environment from diesel engines. The DOC primary functions are oxidation of CO, unburned hydrocarbons, and NO, while active hydrocarbon oxidation can also be used to generate exotherms required for downstream components. This review will describe work that has attempted to understand the reactions, both desired and undesired, that occur over the catalyst. First, the history, configuration, and components of the DOC will be discussed, followed by in-depth coverage of the fundamental reactions that occur over a DOC, including reaction mechanisms, reaction inhibition, and other reactivity effects. Finally, DOC deactivation mechanisms and their effects on the DOC are described. Diesel Oxidation Catalysts

Modeling and flow reactor experiments were used to study the kinetics of NO, storage/release on a Pt/BaO/Al2O3 model catalyst. The mechanism for this concept can be divided into four steps: (i) NO to NO2 oxidation on Pt, (ii) NO2 storage on BaO, (iii) NO, release, and (iv) NO, reduction to N2. In this paper, we have focused on the first three steps. From the NO oxidation study on Pt/Al2O3 compared to Pt/BaO/Al2O3, we observed that the presence of BaO decreases the formation of NO2. To test the importance of this step for effective storage, experiments were performed with a Pt/Al2O3 catalyst placed before the Pt/BaO/Al2O3 catalyst. This resulted in increased NO, storage for the combined system compared to the Pt/BaO/Al2O3 case. To resolve the second and third steps, an experimental investigation of NOx storage/release on BaO/Al2O3 was performed using only NO2 and N2 in the gas feed. We propose a kinetic model, which first includes adsorption of NO2, which oxidizes the surface, followed by nitrate formation. Finally, NO3-BaO-NO2, i.e., Ba(NO3)2, is formed. By using the kinetic parameters from the NO oxidation on Pt/BaO/Al2O3 and the NO, storage on BaO/Al2O3, a kinetic model was constructed to describe NO, storage/release experiments on Pt/BaO/Al2O3. However, the rate for NO, release was increased when Pt was present, and the kinetic model could not accurately describe this phenomenon. Therefore, the mechanism was modified by including a reversible surface spillover step of NO2 between Pt sites and BaO sites. Further, experiments with NO2 exposure followed by a temperature ramp with NO/N2 showed that the desorption behaviors from the BaO/Al2O3 and Pt/BaO/Al2O3 were significantly different, which further supports the spillover mechanism. Finally, the models describing NO, storage on BaO/Al2O3 and on Pt/BaO/Al2O3 were successfully validated with independent experiments.
