Familial aspects of ventilatory control in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
TL;DR: Blunt hypoxic responses in patients with COPD are influenced by familial factors and may represent a premorbid "risk factor" in the development of CO2 retention in this disease, but this does not appear to be true for hypercapnic response or breathing pattern.

Effects of upper or lower airway anesthesia on hypercapnic ventilation in humans.
TL;DR: It is suggested that lower but not upper oropharyngeal vagal airway receptors modulate breathing pattern during hypercapnic as well as resting ventilation but do not affect delta VI/delta PACO2.

Ventilatory control after pulmonary resection.
TL;DR: It is concluded that increased ventilation induced by CO2 rebreathing unmasks a breathing pattern after pulmonary resection which is similar to that seen with breathing against an external elastic load.
