TL;DR: In this article, a fiber modulator based phase-switching technique is proposed for the high charge photo-injector at CTF3 at CERN. But the phase shift between two consecutive pulses is much faster and cleaner than the base line scheme where a thermionic electron gun and subharmonic bunching are used.
