Energy levels of light nuclei A = 16-17

The orbiting cluster model is applied to the basic presently available data on resonances in heavy-ion-induced reactions. The model is shown to correctly predict the presence of resonances and give a good overall agreement with the measured resonance energies.

Persistent success of the orbiting cluster model of heavy-ion resonances

The Airy structure in ${}^{16}\mathrm{O}+{}^{14}\mathrm{C}$ rainbow scattering is studied with an extended double-folding (EDF) model that describes all the diagonal and off-diagonal coupling potentials derived from the microscopic realistic wave functions for ${}^{16}\mathrm{O}$ by using a density-dependent nucleon-nucleon force. The experimental angular distributions at ${E}_{L}=132$, 281, and 382.2 MeV are well reproduced by the calculations. By studying the energy evolution of the Airy structure, the Airy minimum around $\ensuremath{\theta}={76}^{\ensuremath{\circ}}$ in the angular distribution at ${E}_{L}=132$ MeV is assigned as the second-order Airy minimum $A2$ in contrast to the recent literature which assigns it as the third order $A3$. The Airy minima in the ${90}^{\ensuremath{\circ}}$ excitation function is investigated in comparison with well-known ${}^{16}\mathrm{O}+{}^{16}\mathrm{O}$ and ${}^{12}\mathrm{C}+{}^{12}\mathrm{C}$ systems. Evolution of the Airy structure into the molecular resonances with the ${}^{16}\mathrm{O}+{}^{14}\mathrm{C}$ cluster structure in the low-energy region around ${E}_{\mathrm{c}.\mathrm{m}.}=30$ MeV is discussed. It is predicted theoretically for the first time for a non-$4N\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}^{16}\mathrm{O}+{}^{14}\mathrm{C}$ system that Airy elephants in the ${90}^{\ensuremath{\circ}}$ excitation function are present.

Airy structure in $^{16}$O +$^{14}$C nuclear rainbow scattering

Excitation functions and angular distributions of58Ni+58Ni and58Ni+62Ni scattering at energies just above the Coulomb barrier have been measured aroundθcm=90° in energy stepsΔEcm=0.25 MeV fromEcm ⋍ 110 MeV toEcm ⋍ 120 MeV for58Ni+58Ni and fromEcm ⋍ 110 MeV toEcm ⋍ 118 MeV for58Ni+62Ni. Evidence for structure of non-statistical character has been found in the angle-summed excitation functions; this evidence is corroborated by the analysis of the angular distributions. This is the first time that non-statistical structure in elastic and inelastic scattering is reported with high confidence level for this mass and excitation energy ranges. Attempts are presented to understand the nature of this structure, including the presence of intermediate dinuclear states and virtual states in a potential well.

Evidence of non-statistical structures in the elastic and inelastic scattering of58Ni+58Ni and58Ni+62Ni and intermediate dinuclear states

The14C+16O reaction has been studied by a kinematic coincidence technique at 17 incident energies ranging fromEc.m.=21.05 to 32.1 MeV. Three broad resonances previously reported at approximately 23, 27 and 31 MeV were confirmed and observed in several channels. The evolution of the elastic angular distributions was correlated with these three resonances.

The resonant behaviour of the heavy-ion reaction 14 C + 16 O

Elastic excitation functions have been measured for the 14C+16O colliding system at incident energies from 38-54 MeV in energy steps of 1 MeV. Evidence was found for resonances at Ecm=18.2, 19.1, 22.9 and 23.8 MeV, to which a Legendre polynomial analysis allowed the assignment of L=11, 13, 17 and (15) respectively. The data were compared to model predictions: good agreement was found with the group theoretical approach to resonances and, equivalently, with the anharmonic vibrator-rotator model.
