Adopting environmentally friendly behavior has become more than a claim. Green human resource management seems to be the solution where innovation will be a strategic lever to lead the company, with green practices, to the possession of a decisive competitive advantage. The purpose of this research is to examine the mediating role of innovation capacities in the relationship between green human resource management and competitive advantage in the Saudi food industry. The research compares between males and females in this relationship. For this purpose, we have used a quantitative approach to conduct the research. Using a sample of 1114 female and male entrepreneurs, owner–managers of small and medium different food companies, operating in the Saudi territory, especially in the major cities, namely Riyadh, Medina, Makkah, Sharaqiyah, Tabuk, Al Qasim and Najran. We were able to make a gender comparison of the mediating role of innovation in the above relationship. The results of the structural equation modelling (SEM) via AMOS software version 23 showed a perfect mediation of the innovation capacities for female entrepreneurs, and partial mediation for male entrepreneurs in the relationship between green human resource management and competitive advantage. Following a focus group with ten female and male entrepreneurs, we were able to understand the reasons for the results we arrived at. The results of our research have numerous implications for both scholars and policymakers, especially in relation to the Saudi food industry.

The Role of Innovation Capacities in the Relationship between Green Human Resource Management and Competitive Advantage in the Saudi Food Industry: Does Gender of Entrepreneurs Really Matter?

This paper explores how competition works in knowledge ecosystems, using a theory elaboration approach. With little research conducted in this area to date, three strategic streams of thought—resource-advantage theory, dynamic capabilities framework, and adaptive marketing capabilities perspective—are compared as a departing point and a frame of reference regarding the dynamics of competition. The streams of strategic thought all converge around the notion that organizations must constantly renew themselves to adapt and align to a fast-changing marketplace. The characteristics of knowledge ecosystems are conceptualized, whereafter an in-depth case study is presented to empirically assess competition in knowledge ecosystems, focusing on the perspective of a keystone actor. At the ecosystem-level, knowledge ecosystems primarily expose and explore knowledge, indicating that they mostly operate in a pre-competitive state. The time needed and the limited control inherent to knowledge exploration translate into the keystone actor focusing on transient rather than sustainable competitive advantage. Knowledge ecosystems further prove to be central in the coevolution and the growth of other ecosystems through connecting and sharing of the explored knowledge base with other ecosystem actors who, in turn, exploit this knowledge common for commercial purposes and innovation.

Competition in Knowledge Ecosystems: A Theory Elaboration Approach Using a Case Study

The fast-changing landscape of organizations is driving a move toward environmental performance. Higher education now prioritizes sustainability. This study examines the moderating role of environmentally specific servant leadership (ESSL) from the resource-based view (RBV) and conservation of resources (COR) theories to understand how green human resource management (GHRM) practices affect environmental performance and competitive advantage in Saudi Arabian higher education institutions (HEIs). This study introduces an innovative variable’s structure that has never been implemented in Saudi Arabian higher education. A random sampling method was used to survey 408 faculty and non-faculty members from 58 Saudi higher education institutions. Two direct and one interaction PLS-SEM models tested the framework and associated hypotheses using AMOS and SPSS. Significant and positive relationships are demonstrated among GHRM, environmental performance, and competitive advantage. Furthermore, ESSL had a significant positive effect on the relationship between GHRM and environmental performance, whereas there was a significant negative relationship between GHRM and competitive advantage. Both theoretical and practical implications, as well as various suggestions for future research, are provided.

Green HRM and Servant Leadership: Driving Competitive Advantage and Environmental Performance in Higher Education

Competitive advantage is considered as an element which is critical to achieve. This study argued  that employee creativity is important for gaining competitive advantage. Likewise. the study also  argued that leadership behavior play a significant role in developing creativity among employees.  For the purpose of colleting the data three leadership behaviors which are supported by the  literature in incorporating employee creativity for gaining competitive advantage have been  chosen. The data for transformational leadership, transactional leadership, and autocratic  leadership has been collected from the prior studies. The reliability and validity of the instrument  has also been ensured and the data has been collected from department of Government housing  programs in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah – UAE. The results of partial least square, structural  equation modeling revealed that transformational leadership, transactional leadership, and  autocratic leadership has a direct and significant positive impact over employee creativity as well  as competitive advantage. The findings further ensured that employee creativity mediates the  relationship between transformational leadership, transactional leadership, and autocratic  leadership and competitive advantage. The findings have practical as well as theoretical  significance. At the end some limitations and future recommendations are also mentioned.

Leadership Styles and Competitive Advantage: Does Employee Creativity Mediate The Relationship

Hyper dynamic business environment has rendered the pursuit of sustained competitive advantage untenable, hence the need to focus on transient competitive advantage which is a combination of various factors, which result in the ability of the firm to adapt swiftly to a fast-changing environment. This study’s’ purpose was to assess the influence of strategic aggressiveness posture on adoption of transient competitive advantage. The precise objective of the study entailed was to assess the influence of strategic aggressiveness posture on the adoption of transient competitive advantage by private multi-practice hospitals in Nairobi City County, Kenya. This study was guided by the dynamic capability theory of the firm and McGrath transient competitive advantage theory. The study adopted a descriptive correlational survey research design. The total target population was 400 hospital administrators from which a sample size of 200 respondents was selected using Stratified random sampling method. To enhance reliability and validity of study instruments, a pilot study was carried out whereby a reliability coefficient of 0.7 was considered acceptable. Both descriptive and inferential data analysis methods were used to analyze data. Analysis of data was done within acceptance margin of error of 0.95. Regression beta coefficients were used to examine influence of the independent variables on the dependent variable among private multi-practice hospitals in Nairobi city County in Kenya. The study found out that that strategic aggressiveness posture had a statistically significant influence on transient competitive advantage (β= 0.397(t=.000) and with model prediction of R square 0.292 significant at F=.000). The study concludes that strategic aggressiveness posture has a statistically significant influence on transient competitive advantage among private multi-practice hospitals in Nairobi city County in Kenya. Thus the study recommends the hospitals’ policy reviews to capture these areas for improvement: review policy to revamp competition analysis, increase market assertiveness and soldier towards best cost provision as well as adopt unpredictability in services differentiation.
