Nuclear data sheets for a=110

A systematic study is made of the Cd isotopes $^{110\text{\ensuremath{-}}116}\mathrm{Cd}$ by making use of available experimental data and interacting boson model calculations incorporating both normal vibrational levels and intruder excitations. At the two-phonon level, the calculations appear to reproduce the data reasonably well in $^{110\text{\ensuremath{-}}114}\mathrm{Cd}$, whereas they break down completely for the ${0}^{+}$ states in $^{116}\mathrm{Cd}$. At the three-phonon level, systematic deviations occur across the Cd isotopic chain, revealing the breakdown of vibrational motion in low-spin states. Combined with the failure to reproduce $^{116}\mathrm{Cd}$ at the two-phonon level, it is possible that the Cd isotopes may not represent vibrational systems and that the essential physics of their motion has been missing.

Breakdown of vibrational motion in the isotopes Cd 110 − 116

Levels in ${}^{112}\mathrm{Cd}$ have been studied through the ${(n,n}^{\ensuremath{'}}\ensuremath{\gamma})$ reaction with monoenergetic neutrons. An extended set of experiments that included excitation functions, $\ensuremath{\gamma}$-ray angular distributions, and $\ensuremath{\gamma}\ensuremath{\gamma}$ coincidence measurements was performed. A total of 375 $\ensuremath{\gamma}$ rays were placed in a level scheme comprising 200 levels (of which 238 $\ensuremath{\gamma}$-ray assignments and 58 levels are newly established) up to 4 MeV in excitation. No evidence to support the existence of 47 levels as suggested in previous studies was found, and these have been removed from the level scheme. From the results, a comparison of the level density is made with the constant temperature and back-shifted Fermi gas models. The back-shifted Fermi gas model with the Gilbert-Cameron spin cutoff parameter provided the best overall fit. Without using the neutron resonance information and only fitting the cumulative number of low-lying levels, the level density parameters extracted are a sensitive function of the maximum energy used in the fit.

Properties of 112 Cd from the ( n , n ′ γ ) reaction: Levels and level densities

From detailed spectroscopy of Cd-110 and Cd-112 following the beta(+)/EC decay of In-110,In-112 and the beta(-) decay of Ag-112, the presence of very weak decay branches from nonyrast states is revealed. In Cd-112, 2(5)(+) -> 0(4)(+) and 4(6)(+) -> 2(5)(+) transitions are observed that yield B(E2; 2(5)(+) -> 0(4)(+)) = 34 +/- 15 W.u. and B(E2; 4(6)(+) -> 2(5)(+)) = 77 +/- 30 W.u., respectively, clearly indicating a collective structure. In 110Cd, a weak decay branch from the 4(6)(+) level to the 2(5)(+) level is observed, and from a lifetime measurement following the (n, n gamma' reaction, B(E2; 4(6)(+) -> 2(5)(+)) = 55 +/- 14 W.u. is determined. A new branch is also observed for the decay of the 6(4)(+) level to the 4(6)(+) state, indicating that the sequence 2(5)(+), 4(6)(+), and 6(4)(+) forms part of a collective structure. The presence of 3(3)(+) and 5(2)(+) levels spaced between the previous sequence is highly suggestive of a gamma band built on the 0(2)(+) shape-coexisting intruder state. The 0(4)(+) levels in Cd-110,Cd-112,Cd-114 have preferred decays to the lowest 2(+) members of the intruder bands, and for 114Cd a previous measurement had established an enhanced B(E2; 0(4)(+) -> 2(3)(+)). The energy systematics of the 0(2)(+), 0(3)(+), and 0(4)(+) levels all display the characteristic parabolic-shaped pattern, suggesting that they are built on multiparticle-multihole proton excitations. The results are compared with beyond-mean-field calculations that reproduce qualitatively the observed levels and their decays and suggest that the 0(1)(+), 0(2)(+), 0(3)(+), and 0(4)(+) levels and the excited states built on them possess different deformations.

Shape coexistence and multiparticle-multihole structures in Cd-110,Cd-112

The [gamma]-ray transitions following the [beta] decay of [sup 110]In[sup [ital m]] (half-life 69 min) were observed using Compton-suppressed Ge detectors. The activity was produced by the [sup 111]Cd([ital p],2[ital n]) reaction at a bombarding energy of 18.9 MeV. Singles in multispectra mode and [gamma][gamma]-coincidence experiments were performed. Approximately 150 transitions were assigned to [sup 110]Cd, based on their measured half life and/or observation in coincidence with well-known lines. The log[sub 10]([ital ft]) values of nearly all observed levels were determined and an analysis of the beta-decay strength using microscopic theory was performed. The experimental data were interpreted in the framework of the interacting boson model.
