It is of great significance to predict the results accurately based on the statistics of sports competition for participants research, commercial cooperation, advertising, and gambling profit. Aiming at the phenomenon that the PageRank page sorting algorithm is prone to subject deviation, the category similarity between pages is introduced into the PageRank algorithm. In the PR value calculation formula of the PageRank algorithm, the factor W(u, v) between pages is added to replace the original Nu (the number of links to page u). In this way, the content category between pages is considered, and the shortcoming of theme deviation will be improved. The time feedback factor in the PageRank-time algorithm is used for reference, and the time feedback factor is added to the first improved PR value calculation formula. Based on statistics from 1230 games during the NBA 2018-2019 regular season, this paper ranks the team strength with improved PageRank algorithm and compares the results with the ranking of regular-season points and the result of playoffs. The results show that it is consistent with the regular-season points ranking in the eastern division by the use of improved PageRank algorithm, but there is a difference in the second ranking in the western division. In the prediction of top four in playoffs, it predicts three of the four teams.

The Ranking Prediction of NBA Playoffs Based on Improved PageRank Algorithm

In sports, one of the primary measures for assessing the performance of a team is their team’s strength. The “team’s strength” is the combination of various factors of a team such as batting, bowling and fielding strengths. In cricket, it is significant to measure the strengths of the teams across the region/venue because every region has different playing condition which affects their performance. The selectors should be aware of their team’s strength against the opposite team from the visiting region so that the team’s management, the coach and the captain select a strong combination from his team. A lot of research has done for player’s performance measurement, team’s selection, team’s ranking, etc. but there is no research done in finding the strength of a team across the region. In this paper, we computed the Region-based Team’s Strength (RTS) and a Unified Team’s Strength (UTS) based on several parameters of a team using Principal Component Analysis (PCA). In addition, we also used the Weighted Average System (WAS) to compute the region-based team’s strength. The intuition is to distinguish a stronger and a weaker team across the region. The results show that the proposed method provides quite promising insights into a region-based and a unified team’s strength in cricket sports.

Cricket sport is a favorite source of entertainment in commonwealth countries. Traditionally in cricket, the performance of the team measures after winning or losing a match. The international cricket council (ICC) is a governing body that ranks cricket teams globally without considering the strength and weakness of the region. Region-based team’s strength and weakness is an essential factor for the teams’ selection. In this paper, we proposed the Region-wise Team Rank (RWTR), an extension of the PageRank algorithm to rank cricket teams across the region. The intuition is to get more points to a team that wins a match from a stronger. The proposed ranking reflects more the flow of the game compared to the traditional ranking. Region-based Teams Ranking in the Game of Cricket using PageRank Algorithm

In the database management system, it is significant to show the results of any query with the lowest response time. This research conduct on the Postgresql database queries on the TPC-H benchmark for calculating the response time of the multiple queries. For acquiring this phenomenon, it is essential to adapt such practice from which more than one queries at the same time may be executed to get benefits of parallel processing. By inspiring this idea, this paper presents the query mix, which is a combination of more than two queries for multiprogramming level 3 (MPL-3), which shows that there are three randomly selected queries in each query mix. This research contained two different experiments, in the former experiment, each query executed in isolation, and in the second experiment, the combination of three queries executed simultaneously for acquiring MPL3. The results show that there is a strong correlation between the individual query and the query mix.
