Adipocytokine levels in obese and non-obese subjects: an observational study
Giuseppe Derosa,Elena Fogari,Angela D'Angelo,Lucio Bianchi,Aldo Bonaventura,Davide Romano,Pamela Maffioli +6 more
TL;DR: Obese subjects’ predisposition to develop dysmetabolic disease and hormonal dysfunctions is confirmed and higher HOMA index correlated with higher resistin, adipsin, RBP-4, and leptin concentrations, while higher leptin levels correlation with higher TNF-α, Hs-CRP, and IL-6 concentration, and lower ADN values.

Effects of berberine on lipid profile in subjects with low cardiovascular risk.
Giuseppe Derosa,Angela D'Angelo,Aldo Bonaventura,Lucio Bianchi,Davide Romano,Pamela Maffioli +5 more
TL;DR: Berberine is effective and safe to mildly improve lipid profile in subjects with low risk for cardiovascular disease and after the washout period, lipid profile improved both compared with the wash out period, and with placebo.

Acarbose actions on insulin resistance and inflammatory parameters during an oral fat load.
Giuseppe Derosa,Pamela Maffioli,Ilaria Ferrari,Elena Fogari,Angela D'Angelo,Ilaria Palumbo,Sabrina Randazzo,Lucio Bianchi,Arrigo F G Cicero +8 more
TL;DR: Acarbose was more effective than acarbose in reducing the post-OFL peaks of the various parameters included the inflammatory markers, after 7months of therapy.

Vildagliptin Added to Metformin on β-Cell Function After a Euglycemic Hyperinsulinemic and Hyperglycemic Clamp in Type 2 Diabetes Patients
Giuseppe Derosa,Pietro D. Ragonesi,Anna Carbone,Elena Fogari,Lucio Bianchi,Aldo Bonaventura,Davide Romano,Arrigo F G Cicero,Pamela Maffioli +8 more
TL;DR: The addition of vildagliptin to meetformin gave a better improvement of glycemic control, insulin resistance, and β-cell function compared with metformin alone.

Effects of Berberis aristata/Silybum marianum association on metabolic parameters and adipocytokines in overweight dyslipidemic patients
TL;DR: Berberis aristata/Silybum marianum fixed combination seems to be safe and effective in improving lipid profile, but also in improving insulin resistance and adipocytokines levels.
