Grain refinement of magnesium alloys by dynamic recrystallization (DRX): A review

Simultaneous improvement of strength and ductility in ZK60 magnesium alloy by constructing the bimodal grain structure

Si has received considerable attention as a high-capacity anode for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) because of its advantages such as high theoretical specific capacity, low working potential, and abundant sources. However, Si undergoes a large volume change during lithiation/delithiation, which is restricts the commercialization of Si anodes. CNTs and graphene have received considerable attention as functional carbonaceous materials that can overcome these shortcomings because of their excellent mechanical strength and electrical conductivity. In this article, we review studies on the use of CNTs and graphene as Si/C composite electrodes in LIBs conducted over the past five years (2019–2023). We also summarize the roles of CNTs and graphene in Si/C composites and discuss the issues to be considered for commercializing Si/C composites as anodes for LIBs. Further, we review the processing methods, performances, and mass-production possibilities of various Si/C composites that use CNTs and graphene. We hope that this study will help establish research directions for commercializing Si/C composites supported by CNTs and graphene. 

Recent progress in utilizing carbon nanotubes and graphene to relieve volume expansion and increase electrical conductivity of Si-based composite anodes for lithium-ion batteries

In this study, a novel nanocomposite material comprising pure Fe3O4 (FO), doped Zn0.5Cu0.5Fe2O4-3 (ZCFO-3), and Zn0.5Cu0.5Fe2O4-3@ Multi-walled carbon nanotube (ZCFO-3@MWCNT) nanocomposite material is carefully prepared using a simple one-step hydrothermal process. Comprehensive surface and morphological analysis are conducted using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), and High-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), while compositional studies are investigated through Raman spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The electrochemical performance is fully analyzed through Cyclic voltammetry (CV), Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), rate capability tests, discharge/charge capacity, and cyclic stability evaluations. Among these three nanomaterials, ZCFO-3@MWCNT nanocomposite at 100 mA g−1 current density reveals the best performance, with a discharge capacity of 1974 mAh/g, ZCFO-3 and FO reveal 1340 mAh/g and 1317 mAh/g respectively. After 800 cycles at 500 mA g−1 current density, ZCFO-3@MWCNT stays strong with a discharge capacity of 646 mAh/g, while ZCFO-3 manages only 362 mAh/g and FO only 111 mAh/g. After 1200 cycles at 500 mA g−1, the nanocomposite still delivers 518 mAh/g. This study suggests that ZCFO-3@MWCNT could be a promising anode material for lithium-ion batteries. 

Synergistic boost in Fe3O4 anode performance for li-ion batteries via Zn and Cu double doping and multi-walled carbon nanotube composite integration

Among various exosomal proteins, matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are a family of membrane associated endopeptidases and have been considered as potential biomarkers in liquid biopsy owing to their multiple roles in pathological processes. However, the potential of MMP14 expression (MMP14-E) and MMP14 proteolytic activity (MMP14-A) in clinical diagnosis is still not clear due to the lack of sensitive and simultaneous detection techniques. Herein, we propose a fluorescent nanosensor for the simultaneous detection of MMP14-E and MMP14-A using a spherical aptamer/peptide dual-probe strategy. The aptamer and peptide probes were sequentially immobilized on Fe3O4 magnetic nanoparticles coated with gold nanoparticles (m-AuNPs) using a disulfide linker. MMP14 can be specifically recognized by the aptamer, while the proteolytic-active MMP14 can cleave the peptide probe. While achieving simultaneous detection, the proposed sensor provides better analytical performances than traditional MMP14 sensors owing to the m-AuNP-based spherical dual-probe strategy. This sensor has been successfully applied for the detection of exosomal MMP14 from cell culture media and real serum samples. Levels of both MMP14-E and MMP14-A increase in serum from cancer patients, indicating their potential applications as biomarkers in liquid biopsy for disease diagnosis and real-time surveillance.
