45S rDNA regions are chromosome fragile sites expressed as gaps in vitro on metaphase chromosomes of root-tip meristematic cells in Lolium spp.
TL;DR: The chromosome lesions observed in this study are very similar cytologically to that of fragile sites observed in human chromosomes, and thus it is concluded that the high frequency of chromosome lesions in vitro in Lolium species is the result of the expression of 45S rDNA fragile sites.

The holocentric species Luzula elegans shows interplay between centromere and large-scale genome organization.
Stefan Heckmann,Jiri Macas,Katrin Kumke,Jörg Fuchs,Veit Schubert,Lu Ma,Petr Novák,Pavel Neumann,Stefan Taudien,Matthias Platzer,Andreas Houben +10 more
TL;DR: No distinguishable large-scale patterns of eu- and heterochromatin-typical epigenetic marks or early/late DNA replicating domains were found along mitotic chromosomes, although super-high-resolution light microscopy revealed distinguishable interspersed units of various chromatin types.

Trichostatin A and 5-azacytidine both cause an increase in global histone H4 acetylation and a decrease in global DNA and H3K9 methylation during mitosis in maize
TL;DR: The interchangeable effects of 5-azacytidine and trichostatin A on H4 acetylation, DNA methylation and H3K9 dimethylation indicate a mutually reinforcing action between histone acetylations, DNAmethylation and histone methylation with respect to chromatin modification.
Holocentric chromosomes of luzula elegans are characterized by a longitudinal centromere groove, chromosome bending, and a terminal nucleolus organizer region
Stefan Heckmann,Elizabeth Schroeder-Reiter,Katrin Kumke,Lu Ma,Kiyotaka Nagaki,Minoru Murata,Gerhard Wanner,Andreas Houben +7 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that the 45S rDNA position in distal centromere-free regions could be required to ensure chromosome stability and is likely to be influenced by the pulling forces of microtubules along the holocentric axis towards the corresponding microtubule organizing regions.
Synteny between Brachypodium distachyon and Hordeum vulgare as revealed by FISH
Lu Ma,Giang Thu Vu,Giang Thu Vu,Veit Schubert,Koichi Watanabe,Nils Stein,Andreas Houben,Ingo Schubert +7 more
TL;DR: The results confirmed the synteny between B. distachyon chromosome 1 and barley chromosomes 2H and 7H at the cytological level, indicated mid-arm position for the Sdw3 locus genetically mapped at the centromere of barley chromosome 2H, and proved that the sdw3 core interval of <100 kb in B.distachyon corresponds to a megabase-sized syntenic region in barley.
