Configuration of the magnetosome chain: a natural magnetic nanoarchitecture
Iñaki Orue,Lourdes Marcano,Philipp Bender,Ana García-Prieto,Ana García-Prieto,Sergio Valencia,Mohamad-Assaad Mawass,David Gil-Carton,D. Alba Venero,Dirk Honecker,Alfredo García-Arribas,Alfredo García-Arribas,L. Fernández Barquín,A. Muela,A. Muela,M. L. Fdez-Gubieda,M. L. Fdez-Gubieda +16 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the chain shape can be reproduced by considering an interplay between the magnetic dipolar interactions between magnetosomes, ruled by the orientation of the magnetosome magnetic moment, and a lipid/protein-based mechanism, modeled as an elastic recovery force exerted on the magnetOSomes.
A Milestone in the Chemical Synthesis of Fe3O4 Nanoparticles: Unreported Bulklike Properties Lead to a Remarkable Magnetic Hyperthermia.
Idoia Castellanos-Rubio,Oihane Arriortua,Daniela Iglesias-Rojas,Ander Barón,Irati Rodrigo,Irati Rodrigo,Lourdes Marcano,Lourdes Marcano,Jose Javier Saiz Garitaonandia,Iñaki Orue,M. Luisa Fdez-Gubieda,M. Luisa Fdez-Gubieda,Maite Insausti,Maite Insausti +13 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a methodical optimization of the iron oleate decomposition method was presented to obtain Fe3O4 single nanocrystals without any trace of secondary phases and with no need of postsynthetic treatment.

Mn-Doping level dependence on the magnetic response of MnxFe3-xO4 ferrite nanoparticles.
Xabier Lasheras,Maite Insausti,Maite Insausti,Jesús M. de la Fuente,Izaskun Gil de Muro,Izaskun Gil de Muro,Idoia Castellanos-Rubio,Lourdes Marcano,M. L. Fernández-Gubieda,M. L. Fernández-Gubieda,Aida Serrano,Rosa Martín-Rodríguez,Eneko Garaio,José Ángel García,Luis Lezama +14 more
TL;DR: The homogeneous magnetic response under applied magnetic fields, together with the great effect of nanoparticle size and shape in such a response, has been confirmed by the EMR analysis and a detailed magnetic hyperthermia analysis has demonstrated the large influence of NP size and Shape.
Shaping Up Zn-Doped Magnetite Nanoparticles from Mono- and Bimetallic Oleates: The Impact of Zn Content, Fe Vacancies, and Morphology on Magnetic Hyperthermia Performance.
Idoia Castellanos-Rubio,Oihane Arriortua,Lourdes Marcano,Lourdes Marcano,Irati Rodrigo,Irati Rodrigo,Daniela Iglesias-Rojas,Ander Barón,Ane Olazagoitia-Garmendia,Luca Olivi,Fernando Plazaola,M. Luisa Fdez-Gubieda,M. Luisa Fdez-Gubieda,Ainara Castellanos-Rubio,Jose Javier Saiz Garitaonandia,Iñaki Orue,Maite Insausti,Maite Insausti +17 more
TL;DR: This work presents an innovative chemical route to synthesize Zn-doped magnetite NPs based on the thermolysis of two kinds of organometallic precursors: a mixture of two monometallic oleates (FeOl + ZnOl), and a bimetallic iron-zinc oleate (Fe3–yZnyOl).

Elucidating the role of shape anisotropy in faceted magnetic nanoparticles using biogenic magnetosomes as a model
David Gandia,Lucía Gandarias,Lourdes Marcano,Iñaki Orue,David Gil-Carton,Javier Alonso,Alfredo García-Arribas,Alfredo García-Arribas,A. Muela,A. Muela,M.L. Fdez-Gubieda,M.L. Fdez-Gubieda +11 more
TL;DR: A model based on finite element techniques has been developed to calculate the shape anisotropy energy landscape for cubic, octahedral, and truncated-octahedral morphologies and accurately reproduce the experimental AC loops measured for these magnetotactic bacteria.
