Inter-individual differences in cytokine release in patients undergoing cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass
A Roth-Isigkeit,L Hasselbach,E. Ocklitz,S. Brückner,A. Ros,Hartmut Gehring,Peter Schmucker,Lothar Rink,M Seyfarth +8 more
TL;DR: In vitro and in vivo cytokine responses and white blood cell counts of patients with high versus low cytokine secretion after a coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) procedure suggest close relationships between cytokine release in the postoperative period and inter‐individually varying patterns of cytokines release in patients undergoing CABG surgery with CPB.
Neutrophil immunity of the elderly
Anja K. Schröder,Lothar Rink +1 more
TL;DR: Similarities in the symptoms of patients with genetical neutrophil deficiencies and those of the elderly indicate a leading role of neutrophils in the effects of immune senescence, and research needs to be done on this, preferably using preparations of high purity to exclude monocytic interventions.
Cytokine production and serum proteins in depression.
TL;DR: The results suggest that the increase in immune activity seen at the beginning of the study may be followed by a suppressed cell‐mediated immune function.
Zinc Supplementation Reduces the Formation of Neutrophil Extracellular Traps by Decreasing the Expression of Peptidyl Arginine Deiminase 4.
Jianan Cheng,Lothar Rink,Inga Wessels +2 more
TL;DR: Zinc supplementation reduces neutrophil extracellular trap formation by decreasing peptidylarginine deiminase 4 expression, suggesting zinc's role in preserving innate immunity and preventing neutrophil hyper-activation in inflammatory conditions.
