Mediterranean diet and plasma concentration of inflammatory markers in old and very old subjects in the ZINCAGE population study
George Dedoussis,Stavroula Kanoni,Erminia Mariani,Luca Cattini,Georges Herbein,Tamas Fulop,Audrey Varin,Lothar Rink,Jolanta Jajte,Daniela Monti,Fiorela Marcellini,Marco Malavolta,Eugenio Mocchegiani +12 more
TL;DR: The Mediterranean diet score is useful in assessing nutritional influence on immune status in old subjects and there were significant effects of the components of the Mediterranean diet on inflammation markers.

Divergent Effects of Zinc on Different Bacterial Pathogenic Agents
TL;DR: Zinc levels specifically down-regulated monocyte activation caused by some superantigens, staphylococcal enterotoxin A and E and Mycoplasma arthritidis--derived superantigen, but not toxic shock syndrome toxin-1, demonstrating that zinc levels control IL-1 beta secretion after both LPS and superantige challenge within a clinically relevant range of concentrations.

Zinc supplementation plays a crucial role in T helper 9 differentiation in allogeneic immune reactions and non-activated T cells.
TL;DR: Zinc supplementation can be considered as useful additive to dampen unwanted allogeneic immunoreactions and strengthen the pro-inflammatory immune defense in non-reactive T cells, which is a frequent issue in the elderly population having a weakened immune response against invading pathogens.

Experimental peri-implant mucositis around titanium and zirconia implants in comparison to a natural tooth: part 2-clinical and microbiological parameters.
K. Clever,Karl Andreas Schlegel,Heinz Kniha,Georg Conrads,Lothar Rink,Ali Modabber,Frank Hölzle,Kristian Kniha +7 more
TL;DR: Compared to the soft tissues around zirconia implants and the teeth, those around titanium implants developed a stronger inflammatory response to experimental plaque accumulation in terms of the total number of bacterial cells and T. forsythia and P. intermedia values.

Analysis of antigen-presenting functionality of cultured rat hepatic stellate cells and transdifferentiated myofibroblasts
TL;DR: It is concluded that HSC play a key role in hepatic immune function and that IFN-gamma treatment might mediate its beneficial therapeutic effects via activation of APC function in MFB.
