Effect of improved zinc status on T helper cell activation and TH1/TH2 ratio in healthy elderly individuals
Laura Kahmann,Peter Uciechowski,Sabine Warmuth,Marco Malavolta,Eugenio Mocchegiani,Lothar Rink +5 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that elderly individuals may benefit from moderate zinc supplementation due to improved immune response leading to reduced incidences of autoimmune diseases and infections.

The impaired immune response to diphtheria vaccination in elderly chronic hemodialysis patients is related to zinc deficiency.
TL;DR: The failure to respond to active diphtheria vaccination is related to asignificantly decreased serum zinc concentration in hemodialysis patients, and the immune response to diphTheria vaccination inhemodialysis Patients is poor.

Repletion of zinc in zinc-deficient cells strongly up-regulates IL-1β-induced IL-2 production in T-cells
TL;DR: Results indicate that short-term zinc supplementation to zinc-deficient T-cells leads to a fast rise in zinc levels which subsequently enhance cytokine production, and stabilized zinc levels seem to be essential to avoid negative concentration-dependent zinc effects on T-cell activation.

Accelerated telomere shortening in peripheral blood lymphocytes after occupational polychlorinated biphenyls exposure
Susanne Ziegler,Thomas Schettgen,Fabian Beier,Stefan Wilop,Natalia Quinete,André Esser,Behzad Kharabi Masouleh,Mónica S. Ventura Ferreira,Lucia Vankann,Peter Uciechowski,Lothar Rink,Thomas Kraus,Tim H. Brümmendorf,Patrick Ziegler +13 more
TL;DR: Blood plasma levels of PCB-exposed individuals inhibited expression of telomere elongating enzyme in vitro in antigen-specific T cell proliferation assays, suggesting that PCBs cause loss of telomeric DNA in T cells due to their metabolic activation and antigen-stimulated proliferation.
Crosslinking of CD66B on peripheral blood neutrophils mediates the release of interleukin-8 from intracellular storage.
TL;DR: The storage of intracellular interleukin-8 (IL-8) in unstimulated human neutrophils and its secretion in response to the crosslinking of CD66b were able to be detected.
