Unexpected similarities of the B800-850 light-harvesting complex from Rhodospirillum molischianum to the B870 light-harvesting complexes from other purple photosynthetic bacteria.
TL;DR: Sequence similarities especially between the beta-subunits of the B800-850 complex of Rs. molischianum and the B870 and B850 complexes of other photosynthetic bacteria agree with this result and provide information on the mode of pigment binding in bacterial antenna complexes.

Structure of the light harvesting antenna from Rhodospirillum molischianum studied by electron microscopy
TL;DR: The structure of isolated light harvesting antenna complexes from Rhodospirillum molischianum was studied by electron microscopy and image analysis as mentioned in this paper, where the B870 reaction center complex formed an almost circular particle with a diameter in the plane of the membrane of about 10.7-11.2 nm.

Spectroscopic properties of the light-harvesting complexes from Rhodospirillum molischianum
TL;DR: Spectroscopic properties, including low-temperature absorbance, linear and circular dichroism and site-selection fluorescence of the antenna complexes from Rhodospirillum molischianum have been determined and imply that the organisation of the core in this bacterium is not much different from that in other purple non-sulphur bacteria.

The light-harvesting complex II (B800/850) from Rhodospirillum molischianum is an octamer
Wolfgang Kleinekofort,Lothar Germeroth,Jacomina A. van den Broek,Dieter Schubert,Hartmut Michel +4 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the molar mass of the light harvesting complex II (LH II) from Rhodospirillum molischianum in solutions of two nonionic detergents (N,N-dimethyldodecylamine N-oxide, nonaethyleneglycol lauryl ether) was studied by sedimentation equilibrium experiments in the analytical ultracentrifuge.

TL;DR: The method is applied to a pigment-containing membrane protein, the light-harvesting complex B800/820 (LH III) from Rhodospirillum molischianum, in solutions of three detergents and it is shown that the complex is the hexamer of the basic α/β/pigment unit.
