Review: Immunity mechanisms in crustaceans.
Lorena Vázquez,Juan Alpuche,Guadalupe Maldonado,Concepción Agundis,Ali Pereyra-Morales,Edgar Zenteno +5 more
TL;DR: This work presents the main characteristics of the crustacean proteins that participate in immune defense by specific recognition of carbohydrate containing molecules, i.e. glycans, glycolipids, glycoproteins, peptidoglycans, or lipopolysaccharides from Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, viruses, or fungi.

Morphology of hemocytes from the freshwater prawn Macrobrachium rosenbergii.
Lorena Vázquez,Armando Pérez,Diana Millán,Concepción Agundis,Gary G. Martin,Edwin L. Cooper,Ricardo Lascurain,Edgar Zenteno +7 more
TL;DR: Using morphological criteria, three types of blood cells are identified in the freshwater prawn Macrobrachium rosenbergii, the most abundant type beinghyaline hemocytes, Granular hemocytes are heterogeneous in size and in density of their granules, and undifferentiated hemocyte are the least abundant.

Altered Glycosylation Pattern of Proteins in Alzheimer Disease
TL;DR: Evidence is provided that modifications of the specific glycosylation patterns are closely related with the presence of the hallmark lesions of this disease, suggesting that an abnormal enzymatic processing of proteins may be an early event in the neuronal degeneration which characterises AD.

Bacterial agglutination by the sialic acid specific serum lectin from Macrobrachium rosenbergii
Lorena Vázquez,Laura Jaramillo,Ricardo Lascurain,Edwin L. Cooper,Patricia Rosas,Edgar Zenteno,Edgar Zenteno +6 more
TL;DR: A serum lectin from the freshwater prawn, Macrobrachium rosenbergii that agglutinates Bacillus cereus and Aeromona sp.

Participation of a sialic acid-specific lectin from freshwater prawn Macrobrachium rosenbergii hemocytes in the recognition of non-self cells.
Lorena Vázquez,Lorena Vázquez,Guadalupe Maldonado,Concepción Agundis,Armando Pérez,Edwin L. Cooper,Edgar Zenteno +6 more
TL;DR: The results suggest the active participation of a membrane lectin in the recognition of nonself by hemocytes with phagocytic activity interact positively with rabbit IgG raised against the serum lectin.
